| Wow! I will have to try that... Chip doesn't beg or bark too much, but he likes to get into trash and toilet paper when we're in the shower, so maaaaaaaaybe it'll work. Do you think it'll work for potty training? Like if he's pottying where he's not supposed to, then we bang the bowl and praise him ONLY when he goes where he's supposed to?

But lately, Chloe is such a bad girl. Her thing now is to get papers off the coffee table, or a receipt that fell on the floor and shred it. She only does it if =I= am not in the room. She'll do it in front of everyone else. OOOOOooooh I want to catch her doing it so bad so I can squirt her. She knows when she's been bad because she'll be hiding in her crate. Then she'll come out and lick my hand. And if I pick her up, she'll start licking my neck and chest. Little booger, it is so sweet when she does that. It is like she's saying "I'm sorry...please still love me forever!" | |

| Thank You It worked! It worked! No more puppies under my feet, while i am in the kitchen cooking, or in the dining room having dinner. I used a small sauce pan and a stainless steel measuring cup. I never tried squirting them because I read that Maltese cannot be damp and Diesel would be soaking wet for all the mischief he does Thank you for giving me the TOOLS to having well behaved pups

| I tried the bowl thing with Ellie. It didn't work She barks at everything, especially anything outside and the vacuum/mop/broom. She even tries to bite them. We have tried pennies in a can which worked for a little while but doesn't anymore. We also tried not just spraying water on her but pouring it on her. It doesn't work either. When she is bored she will quit when you tell her no otherwise there is no stopping her. I just bought a dog whistle from ebay that I will try but I don't think it will work. I refuse to use a shock collar. Any suggestions?

As far as the vacuum/mop/broom I would work on stay, if she doesn't know it yet, then when you start doing one of these things tell her "to your spot" and take her into her bed or crate(leave it open) or beside a couch or something and tell her to stay. Walk away and start doing whatever is needed if she gets up take her back "to her spot" and again with stay. Just continue to put her back each time she gets out and when you are finally ready for her to get out you let her out by saying "ok" or somthing then praise her and give her treats. Do not let her out until you say your release command "ok" or whatever. She will eventually stay the whole time, Reagan will stay during the whole supper even if we have company. Maybe try shorter times in the beginning gradually adding a little more time each time.

| There was a website that had a lot of info on the pennies in a can (this kinda reminded me of that, just a loud noise). I wish I know what it was I'd post it for you. I think it was a pdf file and had a bunch of pages to it, but it went into a lot of detail with not only using the noise to get the dog to stop doing something you didn't want it to do but to also get it to do stuff you wanted it to do. I actually really liked the methods and was very interested in it. If I can find it I'll post it.

| Thanks for the suggestions. She does know 'stay" and it does work for the broom and mop (nothing works for the vacuum although stay is starting to). I used to use stay all the time but have since decided not to because I feel like if I am telling her to stay when she is being sassy over the mop... it is a punishment. I don't want stay to be a punishment in cause I really need to use it if she gets in the street... If the whistle doesn't work I will probably end up going back to it though.

| That does make sense Ellie May. My friend taught her dog the command settle. For stay the dog only had to stay until released which was going to be a relatively short time for settle she better go ahead and get comfy b/c she was going to be there a while. Something like this might work for you. I don't know how she taught her though, I imagine it was something silimar to stay but no clue. If you like the sounds of it I could ask her how they did it. Another one of my friend's family had taught their dog out of the kitchen. I think it was just something the dog picked up, I don't think they actually sat down and tried to teach him. But it worked great when they were cooking or eating or cleaning and it is definately something you could teach a dog. I was actually thinking to myself as I was writing this that well maybe these things would help for the mop/broom but vacuuming is going to be a bit harder. Then I went and reread your post, "nothing helps with the vacuum", I had to laugh a little.

| I think the vacuum is going to be one of those things that she will win. Maybe I will try to have two different stays for her. If she is being sassy she'll have to stay on a certain rug. I feel like Supernanny now. I will experiment and see if it works.

| The pennies in the can worked for Emmy along with the command, "NO BARK!" Nothing works for the vacuum cleaner or when I dust (with just a rag and spray can). She hates both! For the begging, we move Emmy's bowl right beside us when we eat. She is pretty good about not begging then. Usually it is not the food she wants, just the LAP!
