| Peeing the bed! Diamond has been sleeping in bed with me everynight now for a couple of months. I love having her in bed to snuggle with and I know she loves it too. Anyway, I wanted to see if any of you have problems with your furbabies wetting the bed? Diamond is pretty much potty trained but still has accidents here & there. She has peed in my bed a total of 4 times I would say over a couple months and I am just worried it is ruining the mattress. The mattress is not even a year old, does peeing ruin it? I have a mattress protector but I think it still seeps through. I always wash the sheets and mattress pad everytime she pees but I am just afraid the mattress will be ruined sooner than later. Any suggestions? BTW-I always take her out to pee/poop before we go to bed and take her out immediately in the morning.

| Peeing will definitely soil/ruin your matress! Dogs shouldn't be let into the bed until they're fully housetrained, I feel. The bed is big enough that she can distinguish one side for "sleeping" and the other side for "pottying." I wouldn't let her sleep on the bed until you know that she won't soil it. |

| Lauren- Is your mattress protector treated at all? You could also double up on the mattress protector or if she tends to go in the same place, put a wee wee pad under the mattress protector. Are you seeing any urine stains on the mattress?? The last resort would be to get a plastic mattress protector, but those aren't very comfortable...........

Shouldn't the idea be that you don't want your dog to EVER pee on the bed though? I mean I'm sure those are good ideas to protect the mattress.. but it's gross and I don't want my dog to EVER pee there. I feel like putting all that stuff down will just prevent the mattress from getting hurt but not stop the actualy problem.

| When I first got Gracie, I made her sleep in a very small soft carrier (one made for a ferret) on my bed next to me. She quickly became very consistent with waking me up to take her potty if she needed to go. I waited until she was sleeping through the night before I let her sleep with me outside of the carrier. She had one pee accident on the bed. I returned her to her carrier at night for another week or so. After that, there were no more accidents on the bed. I suggest no food or fluids after 7:00 PM and wait until baby is sleeping through the night before allowing her to sleep with you in bed, outside of a crate. I have read on here where others do something similar, making a crate out of pillows. Good luck.

| Not much advice here, but I have a lhasa apso named Lula and she will pee on the bed. When she was a puppy she did it in her sleep, and now she does it to mark so she's only allowed in the bedroom w/a diaper on and sleeps in a huge area I have set up in my kitchen. I just bought a Vera Wang Sealy mattress last year and it was so expensive and it has honestly been ruined by the peeing. Good luck!!!! xoxo |

| Just a thought as it sounds like you want to continue to snuggle with her (I can't blame you at all), how about trying a diaper on her at nightime? You can buy one at the petstore and the I used to cut up an adult lightday pad and put it in the diaper. At least then if she pees a little it is in the diaper and not on your bed. She might not like the diaper at first, but she will adjust? Again, just a thought... Kathy |

| Thanks for all of the suggestions. While I want to protect the actual mattress itself, I feel as if she will continue to do it unless I do something about it. I have a mattress pad/protector on it now and I really don't want to use two That would take even longer to make the bed and I really don't need two. I know she is going to hate it but I have been thinking about keeping her in the crate at night because I don't know what else to do. I have tried making a fort or a crate with pillows and she just wants to be next to me when I sleep...go figure. I even have a small bed (pet bed) in my bed and she sleeps in it but in the middle of the night, comes under the covers with me. I just cannot afford to buy another mattress anytime soon...I am still paying off this one!!!

| The first thing is to remove the smell of the pee as best as possible! Use bleach or color safe bleach, it will decrease the chance she'll pee on it again! |

| I believe (but I could be wrong) that bleach has amonia in it and you don't want to clean a pee spot with anything amonia because it has a urine smell to it and will only attract a dog to go in that spot again. What you want to do is neutralize the pee smell with a neutralizer (not a deoderizer). You will need to use something like Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle. You should clean the mattress with it (I would saturate the area) and then I might even clean the bed clothes with some in the wash (along with your detergent).

Donating YT 500 Club Member | A Bissell green machine can clean and suck out the nastiness. But you do need to follow up with a urine-be-gone spray on the mattress AND the sheets, even though you're laundering them. Here's a recent thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78575 |
