| will she ever poop on her pee pad?? Hi everyone! I have to admit I do not have a yorkie, I have a shih tzu poodle mix who is 15 weeks old today but she is about the same size as a yorkie- 3lbs currently-so the questions on this board help me a lot more than other general forums. She is my first puppy so reading all the advice here is very helpful. I am pee pad training her and she is doing really well with peeing but refuses to poop on it! We are catching her when she starts pooping and putting her on the pad, then giving her a treat when she finishes. Any other suggestions, I'm afraid she will never learn! Is she still just too young? I just ordered the larger size pads with a holder so I am going to try that. PS- I am pee pad training her bc I live in a 4th floor loft and there is no way I can get her out enough. Does anyone else continue to use pee pads with their adult dogs? Thanks! |

| I got my little guy at 4 1/2 months old. He was peeing on the pads, but not really pooping on them. The breeder I got him from said that pooping on the pad took a while for them to get, they naturally want to pee and poop in different locations, but she said if we kept working with him he would eventually get it. So we did just what you are doing, watching him like a hawk, always taking him to the pad when he looks like he has to go, them lots of praise. It took a couple of months, accidents became less and less, now he is over a year old and completely trained on the pads. I love it, I live on the third floor and he goes whenever he wants. I had a friend stay with me recently with a yorkie and he rings a bell when he has to go outside, and she was going outside a lot only to find out he didn't need to go. I never have to worry about getting home at a certain time to let him out, and it is great if we are traveling or on a boat. I hope it works out for you!

| There have been some posts below regarding what you're asking. I know it's frustrating. Tia will always pee on her pee pad if she's on that floor of the house (and she usually is), but refuses to poop there. I have to actually restrain her from wlaking away from the pee pad...and she won't poop while I'm holding onto her, and as soon as i let go, she runs off to another part of the house. If she doesn't "get it" in the next couple of weeks, I think I'll try bell training her to go outside.

| I've read that if you take some of their poop and put it on the pad that they should smell it and start to associate the smell of poop on their pad to actually going poop on the pad. Hope this helps! |

| howie is the same way. he pees on his pad, but will not poo on it. he usually poos in the same spot all the time -- the mat right in front of the front door. people have suggested putting a pee pad there so he can associate it the pee pad with it, but he ended up just peeing on it instead. so, i took the pee pad away because i did'nt want to confuse him with another pad lying around. i've washed the rug many times with nature's miracle, so i'm pretty sure the scent is not there, but i just can't understand why. and like the previous post...if i move him to the pad while he begins to poo, he'll get startled and will not want to poo. |

| It just takes time and patience. She will learn eventually, some learn sooner than others. When she goes off of the pad does she prefer one spot over others, or is it entirely random? If she prefers one spot, I'd try putting a pee pad in that spot. |

| Thanks everyone! She will poop on the pad when I put her on it, she doesn't run away but she never voluntarily poops there. I guess I'll just wait it out and hope she gets it soon! |

Then each room is new territory and they have to test that too. so just because they are trained in the kitchen does not mean they are trained in the living room.

| Success! Sort of....today I caught Tia squatting to poop in the hall way. I went to pick her up and she didn't run away. I placed her on her pee pad and she only tried to get away from me once. I let go of her and she went ahead and pooped! Hooray! I gave her 2 small pieces of pupperoni, lots of kisses and well, I pretty much threw a little party for her! Now, let's see what happens when I let her out of her crate when I get home from work...

| I have a similar question. My dog stays in the kitchen behind baby gates during the day. There is a pee pad in there, her bed, her food and water. She pees in that pad but doesnt poop on it, she will go any other place BUT the pad. When we get home she has run of the house except the bedroom and she sneaks poops in corners and has pee accidents too. At night she goes in the bedroom with us and never has accidents there. She sleeps on her bed on the floor and walks and plays quietly throught the night. She has a pee pad in the bathroom and when we wake up in the morning she has peed and pooped on the pad. So why is it that in the bedroom she is a good girl but in the kitchen she poops somewhere else and watch out when she is loose, she will go wherever? |

| I've heard here that a separate pad usually works for poop. I tried it, and so far its working. They just don't like to pee and poop on the same pad sometimes. |

For some reason she seems to think the pad in the kitchen is quite comfy. Even if she has peed on it she will lay on it to hang out, take her toys there to play, and even carries her treats there to eat

I tried putting the poopy on the pad, that doesnt work. She is only 9 weeks old, is she too little to learn yet??????????????
