I got my little guy at 4 1/2 months old. He was peeing on the pads, but not really pooping on them. The breeder I got him from said that pooping on the pad took a while for them to get, they naturally want to pee and poop in different locations, but she said if we kept working with him he would eventually get it. So we did just what you are doing, watching him like a hawk, always taking him to the pad when he looks like he has to go, them lots of praise. It took a couple of months, accidents became less and less, now he is over a year old and completely trained on the pads. I love it, I live on the third floor and he goes whenever he wants. I had a friend stay with me recently with a yorkie and he rings a bell when he has to go outside, and she was going outside a lot only to find out he didn't need to go. I never have to worry about getting home at a certain time to let him out, and it is great if we are traveling or on a boat. I hope it works out for you!
