| I have never used the pads. I started training Toto to go outdoors. It took a good 6 to 8 months for him to really understand what he was supposed to do and to be able to let me know when he wanted to go out. I always take him out on a leash as my yard is not fenced. I have had Toto for 19 months and he is doing great. No more accidents in the house. When he wants to go out, he will sit in front of me and growl. If that doesn't work, he will bark at me and start backing up. Thats when you better be getting ready to go out. I am now able to leave the house all day without fear of what I will find in the floor. I also gate the kitchen and leave him with plenty of food, water, his bed and toys. He never has full access to the rest of the house unless I am home.

My 6mo old is paper trained. I tried to get him to use pee pads and he FREAKED out and he SHREDDED the pee pad =( I want to switch from news paper to pee pads because the news paper definately does not absorb much. Any tips and tricks to get him accustomed to a pee pad and not freak out at it? Also, when the weather is much nicer, i am hoping that i can train him to go outside.

I bought one of these and it's really nice. It's easy to clean. It's expensive, but probably a good investment. It's treated with something that they're supposedly attracted to. Eventually their own scent will attract them to it. http://www.thepamperedpetmart.com/Me...t_Code=PupHead

Did not use pee pads... Our puppy is almost six months old and I had never heard of pee pads - we had always had large dogs before and this is our first tiny dog so I had to learn a lot of things. She was fully trained by 16-17 weeks to do both pee and poop outside. We live in Nova Scotia and it does get cold and snowy here. There were times I felt bad about putting her out but she learned quickly to go to her toilet area and do her business and come back in. During all this we did discover that she LOVES being outside and loves the snow...she is a dog afterall. I think that everyone has their own way of training - be it dog or child (or even husband!) but I am very glad we sent our little girl outside.

Our dog is almost six months old and crate trained. She goes out for her last toilet at about 11 or 11:30 at night and I am usually up around 6:00 to let her out for her morning toilet. Until a month ago she would race for the door in the morning as she had to go but now I find she is a bit of a slug in the morning and I can leave her until almost 7:30 - guess her little bladder has grown! I used to get up with her in the night when she was younger but not now.
