I have never used the pads. I started training Toto to go outdoors. It took a good 6 to 8 months for him to really understand what he was supposed to do and to be able to let me know when he wanted to go out. I always take him out on a leash as my yard is not fenced. I have had Toto for 19 months and he is doing great. No more accidents in the house. When he wants to go out, he will sit in front of me and growl. If that doesn't work, he will bark at me and start backing up. Thats when you better be getting ready to go out. I am now able to leave the house all day without fear of what I will find in the floor. I also gate the kitchen and leave him with plenty of food, water, his bed and toys. He never has full access to the rest of the house unless I am home.
