Hide n Seek So Stump is a year old and we are still having potty problems. He started peeing on his pee pads about a month ago, and this was working great. He still has about 80% off the peeing down to his pee pads. But pooping is a diffrent story. Our yard isn't fenced in yet because we are remodeling. So if I take him outside he has to be on a leash. He won't use the pee pads, and he won't go outside because he likes to hide when he does it. So It's always either behind the couch, in the hallway, or somewhere else that no one is looking. I thought about maybe a litter box because he can burry it like a cat.. but I just read the recent topic about litterboxes vs. peepads and I don't want my house to smell. Anyone have any ideas?? Im hopeless at this point. Even worse is that I'm visiting my bf and I just bought him a puppy and we've had him for 3 days and he has only had like 2 accidents!!!

| Shylah will do this sometimes too. Only she poops right by the pee pad. She does her little circles to go and then misses the pad!

What about putting the pee pad behind a box? You have one bashful little guy...Brynna my one Yorkie suffered from this for a bit...she was so shy, we watched her close, caught her one day when she was giving us the signs...we took her to the pee pad and we just said...we're turning our backs, while she was circling on the pee pad and we turned our backs Seriously...and this worked for her. At first she was giving us the butt...so shy...now, she seems to be more comfortable... She's almost six months old. ~Marly

My yorkie Pete was also a little shy guy especially when it came to number two's, so I was constantly finding surprises when I looked behind our couch. I ended up blocking the sides of the couch so he couldnt get back there and found a more private area for his pee pads, it took a little time and a few more accidents but he eventually got it. Good Luck.

oh yeah and i also noticed Pete likes to keep hes pee and poo seperate on his pads (especially particular with poo) so his pads need to be kept really clean or he wont poo on them.

Hmm... I think the boxing in his pee pad might work. I hope so, because we need something. My boyfriend makes fun of me because I bought him a puppy a week ago and he is about 90% potty trained already. Poor Stump ... he is just a slow learner when it comes to pottying. Lol. Has anyone tried the litter boxes for dogs??? I'm curious if this will work. I might try the pee pad in the box.. I will keep everyone updated. As for suggestions.. if anyone else has any I'd love to hear them.

You can use a litter box but instead of using litter, use a pee pad. That way, you won't have the smell. You could put the litter box behind something so he feels like he's hiding. One thing I noticed about my little guy is he's fine to pee on the pad, but sometimes when he poops, he barely misses or gets it half on, half off the pad. I had been taking his poop off the pad and throwing it away, and then changing the pad when he uses it a few more times, but then I had an idea. I thought maybe he's not so sure about the poop going on the pad so I left his poop on there, and ever since, he has been strictly using the pad to pee and poop, and he gets it right on the pad. I think they need to see that the poop goes on the pad the same as the pee. Hope this makes sense, I'm tired lol Good luck! P.S. -- Once he got the hang of it, I started again removing the poop from the pad. That way, I don't have to look at it lol

Hmm...That sounds like a good idea. But atleast it's easier to look at on a peepad then it is on your carpet!! Lol.

So I went to Target and bought Stump a litter box and I didn't think he would be able to get in it because of the high sides, so I used my imagination and we have a small plastic krate that I bought when I didn't know what I was doing and it sits underneath my bed now. So I took the bottom of it and lined it with a pee pad and put it next to his other Pee Pad. I figured the sides would hide him a little so he could do his business there. Well it's been there for about a day now and he won't use it. But the 2 poop accidents ( more like on purpose's haha) he has had I took the poop and put it in the corner of the crate. Well he covered it up himself by folding over the pee pad on it.. so now I either have to unfold it and he will do it again, or put a new one in.. I'm not sure what to do..????

| Wow, Stump sure is being difficult about this! Where does he seem to like to go poop? You could try putting his pads there and letting that be his place. As long as he's going on the pads, who cares where they are? Eventually you can move them to a more convenient spot when Stump gets good enough at going on them.
