You can use a litter box but instead of using litter, use a pee pad. That way, you won't have the smell. You could put the litter box behind something so he feels like he's hiding.

One thing I noticed about my little guy is he's fine to pee on the pad, but sometimes when he poops, he barely misses or gets it half on, half off the pad. I had been taking his poop off the pad and throwing it away, and then changing the pad when he uses it a few more times, but then I had an idea. I thought maybe he's not so sure about the poop going on the pad so I left his poop on there, and ever since, he has been strictly using the pad to pee and poop, and he gets it right on the pad. I think they need to see that the poop goes on the pad the same as the pee. Hope this makes sense, I'm tired lol

P.S. -- Once he got the hang of it, I started again removing the poop from the pad. That way, I don't have to look at it lol
