| not long at all its the easiest command! maybe a few days! this is how i did it... first take a treat lift it over their head and say sit when you put the treat there they usually just automatically sit then give the piece of treat just keep doing that and they eventually get it!Good luck! you can also search it im sure you will find lots of info!

Exactly the method I use. Short term memory can happen after a couple of sits, but to implant a new command into long term memory takes daily work over a period of 30 or so days. A GREAT tip from the instructor at my training classes. When you are training something, use treats that have a high value to the DOG. Something that he/she will be willing to work for

This is the metod I used also, if they start to back up, put your hand behind their back legs so they have to sit. I won't feed mine until they sit, then I put it down and tell them to wait. And they do that very well now. At first I kept my hands on the dishes as I said wait and if they started to stand I picked it back up. After they got that, then I would let go of the dishes and put my hands in front of their faces as I said wait. And just gradually stood up as I kept saying wait. Now they sit I put the dishes down and say wait and I stand up they don't move until I say OK.

| Sometimes it just takes them a while to figure out roll over. Use a REALLY good treat. Some other fun ones to work on are shake, high five, and wave. Loki will wave on command. The kids LOVE it. He will also do a dramatic "play dead" Some easy ones to teach are "spin" and once you do sit and down work on "puppy pushups" where you do sit/down/sit/down...

| I am not a trainer but ... it literally took mine just a few minutes to learn to sit on command. i took a treat in one hand and with the other hand pushed on their behinds to make them sit while saying sit. when they sat down i gave them the treat. only took a few treats to get it across to them. next day i said sit and waited.. they did it! with a treat! they trained me good.

It's so cute because he offers it now as his "can i have a treat" trick. That used to be roll over. It's the latest trick that gets him the most amount of praise and most likely to get a treat. So now he'll sit by me and start waving, like "Hi over here your favorite dog give me a treat please!" He also learned "kiss" using target. I lean over and say "kiss" and he will come running for my face. But I didn't want a french kiss so I just taught him to bop his nose to mine

| One handy trick which I learnt in my agility class is to get them to look at you when you say their name. This is a great foundation trick for the recall. This is super easy if you have a clicker but I'm sure it'd work if you just say "good dog". Hold a treat by your eyes and call the dog's name - as they look at you click (or say good dog) and give the treat. Then slowly move your hand with the treat further away from your face when you call their name then try moving your arm while you call their name. The outcome: when you're in the park and they're miles away and you call their name - - their first reaction is to look at you. Now you're most of the way towards your recall!!

| it took one class of puppy training they have us do the sign for sit instead of saying it and then treated her when she did - she does it all the time the 1st few times you do it you either help her w/ur hand or when (if ) she does it accidentally treat her |
