Exactly the method I use. Short term memory can happen after a couple of sits, but to implant a new command into long term memory takes daily work over a period of 30 or so days. A GREAT tip from the instructor at my training classes. When you are training something,use treats that have a high value to the DOG. Something that he/she will be willing to work for
