One handy trick which I learnt in my agility class is to get them to look at you when you say their name. This is a great foundation trick for the recall.
This is super easy if you have a clicker but I'm sure it'd work if you just say "good dog". Hold a treat by your eyes and call the dog's name - as they look at you click (or say good dog) and give the treat. Then slowly move your hand with the treat further away from your face when you call their name then try moving your arm while you call their name.
The outcome: when you're in the park and they're miles away and you call their name - - their first reaction is to look at you. Now you're most of the way towards your recall!! |
