| I'm about to scream!! This is my problem. Daisy went to puppy school, but she doesnt come when called. Our back yard is semi fenced (we're replacing our garage so no permanent fencing is done) we bought a tomato garden type fence, it's green and plastic well last night Daisy got out and we discovered that something has chewed "doors" in it (either she's doing it or something is trying to get in) so i dont know what to do. I have invisible fence coming out on Friday to give me a quote, but i really dont like the collar thing. I've looked at x-pens before and never wanted to keep her confined like that, but i think i really have no choice. I've been looking at this one http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.as...=5992&#details and putting two together but just cant decide on what to do. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Just be aware that invisiable fencing doesn't always keep them in. The dog gets a shock going past the line, but that's it...once they learn it is only one jolt...some of them go past it any way.

| Thats hard because I've come to realize that even though I dont let Chloe outside too often (still a puppy) she LOVES it! I too would find it hard to constrain her, but for the time being I think the pen would be a good idea for two reasons. One, you know for sure you aren't going to lose your baby(unless she is a big digger ) and two, you know nothing is going to get her... if it has a top I mean. We have a hawk that lives on our street in the big trees... one can't be too careful with these little ones! Is she mostly an outside dog? Do you have a neighbor that is a close friend with a closed yard that she could run around in for her exersize a little everyday? Or perhaps getting a fairly long leash that is attatched to a pike that you hammer into the ground... then she can still run around and explore but the leash would not be long enough for her to get out of the yard. Anyways, just some ideas, good luck!! |

| The other reason i dont know what to do is with this pen we would have to go put her in it, right now she goes out the doggie door. I'm going to keep searching on-line and see what else i can come up with. Thanks for the input.

| I had gone to Home Depot and bought almost the same green tomato fencing you are talking about, spent about $75 for enough of it to give my guy the entire yard to run around, only to have him start jumping through the railings of the porch to get out of the yard past the fence. So we went back to Home Depot, spent $3 on rope, $2.50 on 2 metal clasps, hooked one to our porch and one on Tiki's harness, and the little guy has free roam of the entire yard for a total cost of $5.50. You can't beat that! |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Shoot yeah those post out can be really handy. You just get enough links to cover the amount of space that you want her to have free reign. I got one for cheap in Target. The spike is spiral and digs down into the dirt and you can choose a 5, 10, 15 or 20 foot tie out that attaches to it. The good thing is that it's also weather proof so it wont' degrade or rust. I paid about $7 for everything in total. Lex likes to chew so a piece of rope with him would be very dicey. Here is link of what I bought: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B0002V490Y

| Daisy - Can you open that pen up to but up against the doggie door? Thats what i do with my little guy. I have it to where his pen is squared off around the doggie door so he has the comfort of a pen in the home but he can go in and out the doggie door to potty while I am at work. The area is pretty large inside but still blocked off so that he can not get in trouble while i am gone. Hope this helps - good luck!

| What a morning it has been. We now know Daisy is not chewing the fence, it's a momma rabbit. Momma bunny was almos stew this morning. My father is putting up a new fence, it's like chicken wire. If i left it up to my other half to do forget it, it would never get done so hopefully this will help the situation in the backyard atleast.

| I just had a quick thoughts. What is you put a xpen inside around the doggie door like someone else suggested and also put one on the out outside of the doggie door. That way she only can go potty in the desinated area and you aren't feeling like you are confining her. You really shouldn't be worried about keeping her in an xpen. Puppies should be confined for the first 6-8 months to not get into trouble and they actually prefer closer quarters that larger ones. Glad to hear your dad is coming over to help out.

| If i put the xpen outside the doggie door then we can get out to the backyard. We have a small landing with stairs so to do that is out of the question. I'm still going to order the xpen so i have it, but i'm hoping that this new fence is unchewable and will solve the problems atleast until we finish our garage. Thank you all for help, its greatly appreciated.

| A fairly inexpensive short term solution would be to do what I've done with Bailey's potty area - but on as large a scale as you'd like. Go to your nearest Home Depot (or any such place) and get rolls of hardware cloth. That name has always amazed me, because it's actually very heavy duty wire mesh. I got a roll that is 1/2" mesh 24" wide by 25' long for $17, or $0.68 per foot. If you think your baby can clear a 2' high fence, it also comes in 36" wide. Throw in as many landscape grade stakes as it will take to hold it in place (at $0.28 each) and you have a fairly inexpensive fence. It doesn't show up strongly, but you can see it behind Bailey in this picture. When Bailey gets past the potty training stage, if we want to give her freedom to roam the entire back yard I'm going to attach this to the bottom of the fence all the way around. |
