| Please help! Muffin is 7 year old un potty trained. I got Muffin last Feb. 2. She was just a breeding kennel dog given to me by the breeder since her last litters died. She was not house broken. For 2 months we have her, she learned a lot already and one of them is to wear a collar and go for a walk 2 times a day and do her business when we walk since we feed her 2 times a day the same time everyday. My problem is that she doesn't go (urinate) as a normal dog should go. Iam getting frustrated because she goes potty early in the morning, but never go at noon time. She will go again when we go for a walk at 6 in the afternoon and would not go when I take her out before bedtime at 10pm. That makes it 2 times a day only. The Vet says it's normal when I asked him as I was getting worried. Lately we were finding wet yellow spots on our carpet where ahe urinated. My training instruction book says put her in the dog cage so she won't wander urinating around in the house and it will learn to go outside when she needs to go. Well, I still have a problem as whenever I take her outside at noon, she would not go and also at 4pm she would'nt. In other words, if Iam making any sense, she still goes potty twice a day. Do you guys think it is normal? I could'nt let her wander around the house to urinate on our white carpet, so she has to stay in the cage until she goes. I feel so guilty. Please help me!!!! I never had a dog that goes potty only 2 times a day. Are all Yorkies all like this? I will appreaciate your suggestions. Rosita :confused |

| It sounds like Poor Muffin was used as a breeding machine more than loved like a pet. Did she live in a crate or did she live in the house? If she lived in a crate and wasn't let out much she was taught to lie in her own mess. That's why puppy mill/ pet shop puppies are hard to train. They go in those cages with the grating at the bottom. My dog goes a lot more than twice a day. She's supposed to go on her pads but will go outside when we go for walks. The walks are more for fun and exercise than anything else. The Spot Bot was recommended to me by a friend who has two Jack Russells so I bought one and it does a pretty good job. I use the hand held hose instead of the automatic mode. Maybe you could keep Muffin in an uncarpeted area like the kitchen until she is more trustworthy. It sounds like she has a much better life with you and hopefully will catch on to life as a pet. |

| HI, You do have a rough road ahead of you as dogs that are older and raised this way it is tougher but don't give up hope it just will take time. You might want to consider pants like this that you can put a femine napkin in so she doesn't mess on your carpet. As the weather starts getting nicer in MI and you spend more time outside this should help also. http://www.joybies.com/

| It will take time! Hallie was the same way when I got her and I had to be extremely patient and onservant of her. When I couldn't be with her I left her in an area with a potty pad and I think she learned from watching Simon as well. She had been kept in a plastic crate and learned to live in her own waste so for her it was potty training basics. She will get better, it will just take time. Good Luck to you and Thank you for rescuing her! |

| Rosita? Does Muffin eat or drink when she is left alone? Many adult dogs will not eat or drink when left alone and therefore she may not have to pee very often. I believe that animals have better control over their body functions than people do, due to the necessity of not giving off a scent in the wild. |

| I'm am so happy to hear that Muffin is finally getting the love she deserves. I have a 7 month old puppy that is proving to be a little stubborn on her potty training. I talked to my vet and she said to find a special treat and give it to her everytime she goes outside. Save that treat for potty only and give her other treats at other times. She said "we are not above bribery to get them trained." I am using tuna, she loves it. Good luck.
