| Starting puppy kindergarten next week... I registered us for puppy kindergarten yesterday. The class lasts for 7 weeks, and we go 1 evening each week. The 1st class is just for ME, so Max won't start until the 2nd week. I'm so excited! After Max graduates, he can go to daycare! We've been thinking of sending him 1 day each week, so he'll make some doggy friends. My husband is so frustrated with the puppy days (Max is 5 months, he's been with us for 3), he's questioning why he went with a Yorkie (what I wanted) instead of a lab (what he wanted). I keep telling him to have patience, but I really think it will help for Max to learn some basic commands (I keep telling my husband that Max just needs to learn some manners & he'll be fine.) |

| Congrats on starting kindergarten soon! That's really exciting. Have you told your husband the many MANY benefits of having a small dog instead of a large one? How about the benefits of a yorkie above most dogs, in general! :-) In our case, I wanted a maltese and my husband insisted on a yorkie, haha! But I love our yorkie and would never go back, ever! Did you know that burglers are more afraid of small dogs than large ones? Yorkies are certainly a big dog in a small dog's body, don't you think?! Yorkies won't eat you out of house and home, lol. They also have very long life-spans! And.....THEY DON'T SHED! La la la la thank God yorkies don't shed! LOL.

| My husband is the same way - he's very frustrated but at the same time is loving Tia more than he thought possible. She starts puppy class in April! I'm so excited for her I'm sure all of our puppies will do great!

Be happy you guys didn't get a lab. Yorkies matures mentally about 1-2 years. Labs mature mentally about 3-4 years old. Labs requires more excerise and can be very distructive when they are bored out of their wits. Two of my best friends have labs and the get up at 4am to walk the dog, they have to excerise them constantly or else you couldn't live with them. However, if you can survive the first 3 years of the labs life, they become very good dog. | |

| In my case my husband hasn't been around a puppy in so long he really forgot how hard it is. He's adjusting though Just not as patient as I am!

| You might have your husband be in charge of teaching your dog commands. My husband has Chachi sitting, rolling over, playing dead, lieing down and shaking. Its definitely made my husband close to Chachi. Chachi is alo now a daddy's boy. He just lights up when daddy comes home.

| LOL - I keep telling him that if he spent more time on Yorkie Talk he wouldn't be quite so frustrated! This place is such a wealth of information, everytime I have a question, I search for it and usually there it is. Thanks for adding to all of the wonderful knowledge here

| I hope puppy class works for you and your puppy , also that your Hubby has patience with him. It's hard sometimes and I really don't think it matters on the breed it just matters on having lots of patience & love for them. keep us posted. meanwhile I myself will be trying to get my Nemo train. we had him for 2 months and still working be patient & good luck |

| It is an adjustment, for sure...last year we had to put down "his" dog, whom we'd had with us for 6 years, so she was well out of the puppy phase, and was always gentle & loving & behaved with him (although she was increasingly aggressive toward me). She was also a larger dog (50-ish lbs), and I think he has some unrealistic expectations about having a dog in the family. Apparently he thinks they're born trained?? He'll get over it. |

| Well I'm not going to knock big dogs one bit. My three big dogs out number my one little yorkie. I'm actually probably more of a big dog kind of person, but I wanted and indoor dog so bad and well if we just had one big dog it may work inside but three, I don't think so. I was actually very much surprised how much my husband fell for Reagan right from the start. He has never had a small dog and was one of those men that thought small dogs are for women. Now when he gets home from work he'll sit and watch her run around and just laugh I also think he really likes the fact that she greets him at the door each day when he gets home. He also really can't say much about Reagan's puppy stage because we just got his bloodhound this past June so we (more so me) just dealt with his dog's puppy stage a while ago. I'm not going to say small dogs are better than big nor are big better than small. If you had gotten a lab instead of a yorkie he probably would be just as "bad" about chewing, housebreaking, etc. but just ten time bigger so the end result would have been worse (remind your husband of this). I will say though except for eating a whole bag of dog food one night our lab was pretty much a breeze as a pup. He is now four years old and is probably our best behaved dog and very very loyal.
