| Showed his teeth My Maltese boy (Zoey's bro) had all his matted hair cut off yesterday. He gets this twice per year. Since it gets cold at night I tried to put on a pair of jammies last night. He is shy and gets scared easily. He does not like clothes. When I put the jams on he got stiff and when I tried to put his back foot into the hole he tried to bite me. I gave him the "Dog Whisperer bite" on his back hip and he growled and showed his teeth. He is devoted to me and very obedient. I wonder what I should do about his aggression. Should I just forget putting the jammies on should I get rough with him?

| I am almost afraid to ask....but what is the dog whisperer bite? Do not get rough with a dog. That will just teach him to get rough with you. Instead get consistent and firm. If he tries to bite, say a firm "NO," put him off the bed every time, and do not allow him back up quickly.

| The bite is putting your fingers and thumb in a circle and giving a semi hard touch simulating a dog mom's correction. That is when he showed his teeth and growled.

Mario used to try very very hard to bite me when I trimmed his nails. I worked very hard at desensitizing him for weeks. Now he is fine with me trimming his nails. He was just afraid, so I worked that out with him through patience and treats, and now no more problem. I would recommend trying to figure out first why your little guy does not want pjs put on (fear, painful joints, etc...). Then either not put them on, or find a way to desensitize him to the process.

| I will not tolerate any of my dogs biting or snarling with aggression, towards me! I am pack leader and will not tolerate aggressive behavior towards me, for ANY reason....NO EXCUSES! That does not include separating fighting dogs and one mistakenly getting me instead of the other dog....that has only happened once here....my dogs are separated into non fighting groups.....but I have no aversion to swatting a dog with a rolled up paper for threatening me or attacking me....I am pack leader and do not tolerate challenges.....you can even handle it like any pack leader handles a challenge to their authority....quickly and securely snatch a grasp on the dogs scruff (part of the neck that mommas carry their young by), push the dog to the ground in a submissive position, and "growl" "NO!" and hold pup in that position for 3-5 seconds. Then let pup up, ignore him for a few seconds, then you can start to interact with him again. Do NOT let him have his way in this argument...you keep going until you get the task done. I would not ever let one of my dogs "tell" me what "they" will "allow" me to do with them! THAT behavior is stopped immediately, no questions asked! Consequently, I have no problems with biting dogs, timid dogs, fearful dogs, etc....they know I am pack leader, they already know what I will tolerate and not tolerate, and none of them are cowardly, or fearful of my hands.... Now, that does not mean they submit to everything I try to inflict on them....like grooming, bathing, clipping nails, brushing, etc.....I have some that would stand quietly on one leg, and let me do anything I wanted to do to them....but I have some that act like I have inflicted torture on them, trying to get "sleepers" from the corner of their eyes....they may struggle, they may twist and turn which is fine with me, I understand and I tolerate that with absolutely no problem....but they have never snarled, growled, or bared teeth at me.....THAT will not be tolerated and they know that is a line they do not cross..... But my dogs have no aggression in their breeding...they are not aggressive towards humans.....THAT has more to do with it than probably anything else. | He is fearful and shy. He came from a rescue and was hit by a car with a broken pelvis. I fostered him during his recovery. He isn't aggressive in the least. He and Zoey eat next to each other and are very respectful of their eating space. No problems here. When I got him he was very thin and his previous foster parent said the other dogs would pick on him and not let him eat. I find it amazing that he does not have food aggression. Maybe I should find jammies that don't have hind legs. That seems to be the problem.

I like the idea of jammies with no hind legs....maybe those put a restriction on him with his ability to move that he is not comfortable with....maybe just a small little loop type of thing that goes around the hind legs to keep the jammies from riding up his back... | |

| I just found a sweater with no back legs. I put it on him telling him what good boy he was and he was went zooming all over the room. I gave him some Cherrios as a treat. This works for us.

They take a certain kind of patience and approach when their trust has been damaged. Your little guy may still have pain, stiffness or general anxiety about having his back legs messed with. Jammies with no back legs sounds great.

| We have had Jackson for 5 yrs. we say all the time what a good boy he is. He became attached to me immediately and tried to be my protector. He was afraid of men so I told my husband to ignore him when he arrived. It only took a few days for him to warm up to him. I got him to be a friend for wild little Zoey. Zoey is the boss and he is very good to her - she bosses him about everything and he takes it. He doesn't like to fight.
