  Changes the ENTIRE picture! Changes the ENTIRE approach you will use with this baby that started out so sadly. He is snarling at you out of fear, not meaness....whole different approach needed.  Patience, consistency, repetitive actions....you have to work so much harder and much more gentle with this unfortunate little soul.   You sound like you are doing well with this baby, in your kinder, more gentle approach.... 
I like the idea of jammies with no hind legs....maybe those put a restriction on him with his ability to move that he is not comfortable with....maybe just a small little loop type of thing that goes around the hind legs to keep the jammies from riding up his back...
