Mario was abused prior to our adopting him. We do not know everything he went through, but I do know it took three days of me kneeling down to give him a treat from my hand before he would take it. It took over 30 days before he decided hubby was not going to beat him. Mario was afraid of nail clippers, hair brushes and towels among other things. After working with him extensively, he plays with the hairbrush now, has no issue with nail clippers, and will tolerate towels shaking near him without going into an anxiety attack.
They take a certain kind of patience and approach when their trust has been damaged. Your little guy may still have pain, stiffness or general anxiety about having his back legs messed with. Jammies with no back legs sounds great.
