| Chasing cars Sometimes Ruger slips out the door and roams around a bit. He's always stayed close to home and has been relatively easy to get using a treat or two. We live on a quiet street and he has never chased a car or truck until now. The last couple of days he has either chased every car that gone by, or tried to as he's almost always leashed. And, as most of you know, Yorkies are really fast, especially big ones like Ruger. What do I do? Yes, I always keep him on a leash or tied up outside, and I never leave him outside, even tied up, without me. But, sometimes he just gets underfoot and slips out the door. Help! |

| Teddy got out once and chased the UPS truck. We are very lucky we still have Teddy. Training to stay at the door is important, but it isn't 100% reliable, especially when humans fail to give the command (like my dad did). We put up baby gates to block access to the halls that lead to the doors. It's a nuisance (and great exercise) stepping over them, but the security is worth it to me.

| Well certainly make sure there was no way for him to get out the door. Use a baby gate by the door he can get out of.

Me too!! I do not want mine to get anywhere NEAR a door that leads to the outside front yard....My back yard is fenced and crossed fence....inside my home is fenced and crossed fenced.....Not anything that would get me a positive review in "House Beautiful", but my babies are safe and can not "slip" out of anyplace! | |

| I use 15 inch high metal grids that were made for cube storage. I attach them together with black tie wraps. They work really well (kind of like a 15 inch tall xpen). They are simple to step over, I can make them any length or shape. They are perfect for blocking the doorways to keep my babies safe. I would be horrified if my pups ever got outside off leash or out of the fence. I know many here walk their pups off leash but that's not for me.

| Lambeau has always shown a 'keen' interest in the cars flying by our house while we are out on our leashed walks. We live in the country and have a huge yard, but right off a well traveled state highway. He did a 'houdini' and slipped out the front door as some friends were pulling out the drive and the race was on!! I did not know I could run that fast!!I did not know he could run that fast!! He was NOT responding to 'Lambeau, here, TREAT!' or any other inticement. He actually ran out onto the highway where my hubby had positioned himself to head him off @ the pass. We FINALLY got him herded back towards the house and once we got him inside, I didn't know whether to cry in relief or beat him!! We were SO scared of what could have happened. We are extra vigilant around the doors now, and have been working extra hard on, 'Lambeau, STAY'. Seriously started looking at fencing options after this incident. I imagine its happened to all of us at one time or another. Still makes me shudder just remembering |
