I really love it! It is the best invention yet! And Taycie immediately took to it.. Oh... you don't need a ton of soil in the bottom basically enough to cover the bottom of the box.. if you put to much it gets really heavy moving..

| You all are so lucky. I have a 4 month old male yorkie. I have him for 2weeks. Potty train has been frustrated. I have the pad out side on my deck. I have to watch the clock and take him out side. #1 he will do, but #2 he will not do at the same time. My vet told me that he will do both in the morning. As soon as we enter the house he will do # 2. I have to take him out side if I see It. Are yorkie that slow in potty train? or am I doing something wrong? I am very thank full for any advice Thanks Tito mom |

I took a beach umbrella and put it up outside so that every time I took mine out I was not having to stand in the rain. They didn't like it not one bit... but you sort of have to force them to get out there and do it. I just repeat " GO Potty" over and over until eventually they did. I also took a flashlight when it was dark out and kept it shined on them at all times so that there was no question if they went or not. Sometimes they did not go the first time out so I would put them right into their cage and try again in a few minutes. Not any longer or tehy will finish in the cage. They usually would go the second time out.

I didn't think Taycie was that hard to potty train. I wanted it to be a positive experience for both of us. So finding what works is key.Pads did not work for us. So I had to figure something out that did. Some Dogs do have a preference, some like to go on pads some don't and some will do both, Taycie was associating everything soft with a pad so I threw them out. When I first started potty training Taycie, I took her on walks ALL the time! This helped me SO Much! I would bring treats along and the minute she did go I made a really big deal out of it! If we were going on a "potty" walk. I would say "go potty" about 6354621685462 times!!! LOL. Now, when I take her out she knows what "go potty" means! Being consistent is the best advice I could give! When she was very little I took her out every 30 minutes. As she got older I took her out every hour. If I couldn't watch her she was in either her xpen or her crate. If I couldn't take her on walks I would be outside for sometimes an hour waiting for her to go... but once she did, that is when we went inside. I never gave in. Because she does come to work with me, if I didn't have time to sit and wait I would put her in her crate. I would take her out in 15 minute intervals.. and she caught on VERY quick! I also took her out first thing if I had been gone and left her home for awhile, and obviously first thing in the A.M. Basically we walked ALOT! Schedule Feeding has always helped me as well. I had to do it from the beginning because she came to work with me. After she would eat, I would always take her out about 30 minutes after! And, she would do her thing. Good luck!

| Yorkie Talker | My yorkie used to do her business outside whenever she wanted to. I recently moved and my yorkie does not have access to go outside and she stays indoors. I made a indoor potty and also place newspapers down. She has never once used it, she waits for me to come home and then goes outside. I really would like her to use the indoor potty but I dont know why she wont. |

| Hi Janu, Welcome to YorkieTalk. What kind of an indoor potty did you set up? If your precious little one is used to going outside to potty on the grass, then have you tried an artificial turf pet potty? Screen Shot 2018-05-31 at 7.17.01 AM.png |

| Yorkie Talker | Hi KatysMom, I used a litter tray filled small stones for drainage and added artificial grass.I even placed the artificial grass on the grass spot where she pee pee to motivate her to use it but no luck. |

Thank you for the additional information. So, you have some artificial turf and you have tried newspapers. Do you also have/have you also tried doggy pee pads? I'll assume your little one is like my late senior, Katy did the circle and spin (and circle and spin) routine before she would finally squat and get busy. So, whatever you are using, make sure there is enough space. I have a an artificial turf doggy potty on our covered patio but use potty pads inside. As to the latter, I most recently used the x-large Amazon Basics pads (28 inches X 36 inches). I put them over washable pads like these. I'm sure this is frustrating to you and, as you suspect, it may be confusing for your pup. If you able to consistently work at this, the frustration/confusion will pass soon enough. While a little over simplified, here is the link to an article on PetCareRx, "How to Potty Train a Yorkie with Puppy Pads." Do you awaken early enough in the morning so there is enough time for you to work with your little girl before you leave for work? (So, enough time after she eats/drinks so she will need to use the bathroom.) Is any of this helpful? --KatysMom

| Yorkie Talker | Hi KatysMom, I think I should get a larger area, as the tray seems small. She will sit on it and look at me..lol I will go get the pee pads ( only disposable are available) will check where I can get the washable ones. Thank you so much for the advice. Appeciate it. |

I'm looking forward to/expecting some indoor/outdoor potty training issues once I am blessed with another little one. Input welcome!
