| Potty Problems Rusty is a very smart dog but he is having problems in the potty training area. He wont go number 2 outside! He just won't! My mother or I will take him outside and he will pee and then we wait until he goes poop but he won't do it and so we bring him in and he goes right away...sometimes on the pad sometimes not. What do I do? Is this normal for yorkies. Another thing is that he won't eat his food out of his bowl. We have to put a little bit on the ground and it can't touch! I'm afraid he is gettin too skinny and he isn't nice and fat like puppies should be. Any Ideas? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali also poops more on the floor but will pee on the pads! With her food, unless she is real hungry I have to put it on the floor before she will eat it. I think they will grow out of it. |

| Mini doesn't like to eat out of the dogdish, she will carry bite by bite over to the kitchen throw rug ... ok by me, I just wash once a week. She also hates to poop outside, unless we're on a walk at the beach ... minutes after we hit the sand they both poop! But at home, she will go out the doggie door, but poops on the decking! She'll pee on the decking, too ~ unless I take her out and scat her off the deck onto the grass. But she's sneaky about pooping and it's on the back deck. Oh ... the good news ... I bought a can of Training Aid at Walmart and I spray it on the front deck if she pees or poops there ... and it seems to have worked! The front deck is clear! So, you might try that. Mini's a new mama, so I'll let her have the back deck for the time being. LOL

| tigger does the same thing. only we have two puppy pads down for him. one right in front of the door, and one close by it (where he had been going since day one, but then we got a new tv and the old one is sitting in front of the second puppy pad. so that's why I put the one in front of the door) well when I come home from work he hasn't pee'd on the pad or pooped. My boyfriend and I figure he pee's and it dries before we find it. but he loves to poop on my boyfriends sandles. he he he. I think its hilarious. other then that, he knows to whine at the door to have us let him out. |

As for his food, I'd just feed him where he wants it until you are more comfortable with his weight. | |

| I think just about all yorkies start off taking food somewhere else to eat it. Caleb used to take every bite out of the kitchen to where the carpet starts in the living room. They will grow out of it though. As for pooping, we trained Caleb to go outside from the very begining, no pads. I think it ended up being easier because there was little transition. But he did do that sometimes, pee outside and then as soon as we came inside he would poo. You just have to let him know that it is not ok to go on the floor inside, it's bad and "potty outside" (if he knows those words). Maybe punish him by sitting in a corner for 5 minutes (no family time) might work. But I do notice that when he goes to poo outside he goes to previous spots that he's done it and smells his scent. So placing the poo might work too.

| The only way we got through to Loki that the right place to poop was outside was to PICK HIM UP while he was squatting and carry him there. We did this 2 or 3 times and he got it. He'll be a year old next week and he has only pooped in the house once in the last 6 months and that's because he was sick with diarhea. He did the food thing too and is getting better. He will definately eat it out of his bowl now. He has new food which he likes better and also new BIG bowls that let the food spread out (he was the same about it touching). He still carries it in the other room sometimes though. Also, he did not like his stainless steel bowls. He likes his ceramic ones better. He's wierd. They will not starve if food is out, so don't give in for too long. Eventually they need to learn to eat out of the bowl.
