| Not again!!! Now what? Milo (13 1/2 weeks old) just peed on my bed for the 3rd time!! I told him a stern , "no!' and picked him up and brought him outside to my designated dog toilet area. What do I do to keep him from doing it again? I want him to hang with me on my bed while I watch TV or read. I had to toss out the comforter because it fell apart in the wash and now I have to wash the blanket. Any suggestions? Should I not let him on my bed for a few weeks until his house training is more established? He uses his puppy pad in his exercise pen and he is crated at night. I bring him outside several times a day to go to the bathroom too. Do you think he is confused by using the puppy pads and going outside? |

| My Edward peed on my bed twice but it was because i couldnt tell when he had to go and he was so small he was scared to jump off the bed and go to the wee wee pad so i would suggest that u hold off hanging out with him on ur bed until hes a lil bigger. dont worry it wont take that long Edward is now 1 yr and 1/2 and he wont pee on the bed cause he is brave enough to jump off.... Good luck and be strong he will be with you for many many more yrs. |

| You have my sympathy. Copper is 7 months old and we are still trying to housebreak him. I think we have it down for days and then he pees on the carpet this morning, after he had been outside! I wish I knew the secret, I just keep trying to be consistant.

| Thanks for the replies. I will wait a few more weeks and try again. I know consistency is the name of the game. He is a smart little bugger. I know he can do it! Is it confusing him that I still have the pee pad down in his pen during the day if I eventually want him to go just outside? We were away for the weekend in a pet friendly hotel and those pee pads were great! I would like to be able to travel with him. |

| I'm not sure about the confusing part on the two. I do the same. He has access to his pen, which has pee pads, when I have him out in the den/kitchen. But...I take him outside regularly to potty. He is just going to have to learn both. Most of the time we go outside. We have many days when the pads stay dry, but then there are those other days.... Best wishes to you and your efforts, it takes a while!

| Last week when my pup turned 16 wks (the age where they should be able to "hold it" for longer periods) I got rid of our pee pads inside totally and start going outside 100%--because the goal is to go outside all the time. So far we've had 3-4 accidents inside in 10 days. Hopefully we can teach him a signal to tell us when he needs to go out, and we can cut the accidents down to zero soon! I'd say keep Milo off the bed, or hold him while he's in the bed, until he's a little older. |

| Try making him go "pee" before you bring him on your bed. Do you have a specific word you say as he's "going?"....with that you can train him to pee on command eventually. Give him time and be patient. Mine peed on my bed a couple times too before they realized it was a "no, no". When he does go in the designated area...Praise him more than ever and give him a treat. Don't worry, he'll get..he's still really young. My two came to me at 13 weeks and that was just after they were old enough to leave their mama.

| He is only 13 weeks old. That is still really young and most Yorkie puppies will be with their mother until they are 12 weeks old anyways. Potty training takes a lot of time and patience, you've most likely got many months ahead of you! Too much freedom = not good for a young puppy! He doesn't understand right now where he is supposed to go, so you have to be the one to set him up for success. If he's been peeing on the bed... don't allow him on the bed. Take things slowly. He's not ready for the bed yet. I always knew I wanted to have Jackson sleeping in my bed with me at one point. I got him at 9 weeks old and I would place the crate on my bed. So he learned being on the bed is fine, but he wouldn't potty in his crate of course, so I think he learned that meant no pottying on the bed. I began letting him sleep overnight on my bed when he was around 16-17 weeks old and now at 1.5yrs old, not one accident ever in the bed! So maybe placing a soft crate on your bed and allowing her on your bed THAT way will help?

| What a great idea! I'll put him in his soft crate on the bed. He has a hard one for home and a soft carrier for the car. I think everybody is correct. He is just too young to be there. I do say, "go potty" when I take him outside and he knows what to do there. I'll wait until he is 16 weeks and then I'll take away the pee pad. I like the idea of hanging a bell by the door and teaching him to ring it. Such great help here. Thanks!! |

Don't expect to much from these little guys. You have to remember they don't talk so they can't let us know, "Hey I have to pee." It is the human's responsibility to learn the potty signals our pups give us. There should be a schedule that both can stick to religiously to help the pup understand that potty is to be done in one designated area. Also, a good cleaner to clean all accidents is a must since they can smell stuff we can't. Something like Nature's Miracle helps to eliminate all smells. If it smells like pee to them it must be the potty area right?

| I am most likely a bad mommy. I got Kasha at 12 weeks. She's slept in her crate about 8-9 nights out of the almost 4 months we've had her. She never slept well and so we brought her into the bed (despite DBF's fear of crushing her) and I think she thinks it is her bed. She's only peed 2x (after bad reactions to shots) on the bed. She makes it 8 hours at a time and even now that we have stairs she usually wont get down till DBF or I are up. If only the rest of her potty training went so well! Then again my best friend has a 5 month old Goldendoodle who she's had since he was 8 weeks old (i know way too early!!!) and he can't even sit on the bed without peeing. But he's slept every night in the crate. I love Britster's suggestion about the crate on the bed. I feel like once they realize they have to hold it in order to snuggle they will do whatever it takes to make it their own. It's like a human crate.

| Sydney made it, oh maybe 15 minutes in her crate that first night when she was 12-weeks-old lol. I brought her into bed with me. I tried sleeping on the floor with her first, but that wasn't very comfortable for either of us. I remember I kept checking her all night to make sure she was okay and that my bed was still dry. She did very well. Now at just over a year-old, she still sleeps with me and I still have a dry bed. I don't think there's a secret to it. Like someone else said, you just know your dog and he/she knows you (and what buttons to push for attention). If she wet the bed at any time, rubber sheets just wouldn't do. I would have kept her off the bed until she matured in the potty area. |
