| Am i crazy... For giving a 9 week old free roam of the house? i mean he goes with us when we leave, but at home, he can go on his way....and i keep a close eye, and bring him to the pad and remind him..... |

| I wouldn't personally give my 9 week old free roam of the house, but that's my own opinion. There are so many things a 9 week old can and will get into that are dangerous for him and can be costly for you. If you can restrict him to the room that you are in so you can watch him at all times, but still give him some freedom, then I think that would be safer.

| I have a new 10 week old and he is constantly with his mama and daddy but they have free reign of the house. If I leave he goes in the pack n play for safety and to eat but loves his freedom, being with his fur mama and me and would scream bloody murder if he was pent up anywhere and knew I was in the house. I watch him like a hawk though and our house has long been puppy proofed and the all hard wood floors make the occasional accidents easy to clean up. That's just me though and we have a fairly small house and his is definitely not adventurous and hates to be alone so it makes everything easy for me... |

| Can I also just add that I am not a breeder and we are keeping this little guy and everyone is now fixed but now having had a puppy under 12 weeks I cannot understand why anyone would release a puppy under that age! He is still very attached to Paris and she is constantly watching him, cleaning him, disciplining him (yesterday he got stuck somewhere and was yelping and I got him out and was cuddling him and she was scratching at my leg for me to put him down and when I did she yelled at him...you could almost hear what she was saying!) I cannot imagine giving him up let alone letting him go if we were giving him up before he was more independent! I have a whole new perspective on the age thing after having one this age! Sorry! Tangent! :-) |

| It will be very hard to fully train a puppy that had full access to your home. At 9 weeks that would be the equivalent of letting an infant be unsupervised. If you want to fully train him I would suggest that you keep a much closer eye on him. At the same time, it is much easier to train if you have other dogs in your home that are fully trained. The puppy will naturally follow the adult dogs. But it still is not advisable to let them have that much freedom. Good luck with your new puppy.

| You say that he is always supervised, but allowed to go everywhere. Have you checked behind your couches, etc...? Under beds? Behind trash cans? Do you see him every moment? Are you never distracted? I ask because my dogs are always getting into stuff and I limit where they go in the house. There are things that they get into that you won't even think about. Honestly! Mine almost died once because of a used medication patch that we didn't know was under a bed! At the very least, I would tether him to you. I did that with Gizmo and it made all of the difference. He was always close to me attached by a leash. They really want to be beside/with you more than anything else.

| I do think 9 weeks is too young. Jackson had free roam pretty early, at 5 months, and he was 100% trustworthy when left alone, but when we WERE home, he would still have the occasional accident. I started with a crate for the first few weeks, then moved up to the ex-pen, then he stayed locked in my bedroom (w/ a baby gate), then he got free roam. But I do think it depends on the dog. Jackson has never ever chewed anything, gotten into anything, had accidents, etc while he's home alone... he literally just sleeps (I put up a camera one day!) Some dogs, however, are not like this. Some pups will get into anything and everything. So I think it all depends on the dog.

| yeh i think i spoke worng, not free rome. but not in a crate....i mean, he is either on my lap, on my kids lap, or in the kitchen with me where his pee pad is and his food and water. then in our room, he has his area blocked off and safe, with another bed, food and water and another pee pad.. so like yesterday we went outside with the kids, but i put him in our room in his area. See im learinng something, so he will pick up on the pee pad most if he is confined to an area. i understnad. at night he gets up in his area and goes and pees on his pad.but its bed, flood, then his pad....so he has no choice really....so it is teaching him huh? and in the kitchen i bring him to it....sometimes he goes on his own to the bed, otherwise i see him smelly i put him on the pad and say pee pee. and wait till he goes....reward....ect... |
