I do think 9 weeks is too young. Jackson had free roam pretty early, at 5 months, and he was 100% trustworthy when left alone, but when we WERE home, he would still have the occasional accident. I started with a crate for the first few weeks, then moved up to the ex-pen, then he stayed locked in my bedroom (w/ a baby gate), then he got free roam. But I do think it depends on the dog. Jackson has never ever chewed anything, gotten into anything, had accidents, etc while he's home alone... he literally just sleeps (I put up a camera one day!) Some dogs, however, are not like this. Some pups will get into anything and everything. So I think it all depends on the dog.
