| ![]() I believe any dog can be potty trained it just takes time and perseverance. Dogs will have their accidents but on the most part they want to please you. I don't think that you can blame it on a breeder when your dog is hard to potty train. You have to find what works for you and your dog. If you are not going to be home most of the day then I do swear by the ex-pen. I am most of the day and I used pee pads and an ex-pen. Now that it is warmer outside I take her outside, but I still leave a pad out for the just in case and she does sometimes use it. Limiting their free space to one room is also good when potty training bc they have less chance of sneaking off and starting bad habits. Potty training is not fun.....but it is our duty to teach them so don't give up start from the beginning and every day is different!! Your dog will eventually learn it is still very young and it takes time.

| ![]() my yorkie just turned 1yrs old on 5/22/10. I have had her since she was 8wks old. she's done full jobs outside before. which is why this was a mystery to me. i couldn't figure out why she would pee but nothing else outside. i have house trained dogs before but this is my first yorkie. i know each breed is different. i think you've helped me solve the mystery. lol i have not been limiting her space she has full run. if she needs to sneak off she can. she's only in the crate for about 3hrs aday when i am not around. i will start over with an x pen. can't use wee pads she thinks they're chewy. i would never give up on her. she may also be upset over her new leash. 2mths ago she started chasing things that could mistake her for a snack. that's about when this change started. cutie is my pride and joy. she is such a character and has given me yorkie fever. i will do whatever it takes for her to be healthy and happy. thanks for the tips. ![]() |

| ![]() Training your pup to go outside hopefully won't be as difficult as you may think. I have a 16 week old yorkie that I've had since he was 5 weeks old. I didn't get it from a breeder or store and only paid $150.00 for him. My sisters bought the sister and brother. They have been a joy to us and potty training has really not be difficult. I have trained mine to go outside but he started in the xpen with the pee pad and his bed. When he started missing the pad it was time to take him outside and after a few treats and trips to the backyard, I can't get him to go inside anymore. I agree with a lot of what has already been said that it really depend on the dog and the owner. I had the same problem you're having with my shih tzu and was ready to give it back. I got him at 4 months old but, it took a lot of patience and the assistance of you Rottie to help him get it. He's 9 months know and I have no issues. Sometimes it takes using other pets to show them what they should be doing. That has worked for me. Just have patience trust me he will eventually get it. Good luck!! ![]() |

Wow, but 5 weeks old, that was super young to be away from its mom. If you didn't get it from a breeder or a pet store, did you get your pup from a rescue? If you did, would you mind posting the name. There should be a warning against bad rescues too.

| ![]() No I got my yorkie from a young lady that accidentally allow her cousins 2 yorkies not related to mate and have a litter. He is in the Army and she was stuck with 5 puppies she didn't know what to do with so my sisters and I took them off her hands. We thought about leaving them there with the mother but found out that after we took them she was trying to get rid of the mom for 300.00. She had no idea what she had and just wanted to be free of the responsibility. So, no bad rescue, breeder or pet store just a young person that had no clue. ![]() |
