Star Does your baby sleep in your bed?

I was just wondering if your baby/babies sleep on the bed with you? Is this a bad idea if you're wanting to crate train? I read a post on here where a lady lets her baby sleep in the bed with her and lays down pee pads on her bed! I can't bring myself to do that, besides, to me that's telling them that it's OK to go potty on the bed. I'm bringing my baby home in two weeks and I'm trying to gather all of the best information as possible! Please let me know what you do!

No I wouldn't recommend letting a puppy sleep with you for many reasons. One he will need to relieve himself, Two he/she could fall off the bed and these are very small dogs and their bones are very fragile. I have a 4 month old Yorkie and a 5 year old Yorkie . The 5 yr. old is housebroken so unless he is sick he will at times sleep w/ us or at the foot of the bed but the puppy sleeps in her crate which is right next to our bed . I get up in the middle of the night to let her out so she doesn't soil her crate. Crating is an excellent way to train your baby b/c he or she will not want to soil where they sleep. Good luck and Congrats on your new Baby...your gonna love her/ him!

Well Sophia lets us sleep in "her" bed and I'm 100% with you on no pee pads on the bed. Pee pads go in two or three places in the house and until your baby is trained to them and knows where they are and that is where she's supposed to do her business then I would crate her. We actually used a baby's play pen for Soph and it didn't take her very long at all to learn to use the pads so she could graduate to the bed with us. Have fun with your new baby!

Mine sleep with me once they are housebroken. Until then they sleep in a crate in my room. I also let them out during the night.

OK... During crate training, is it better to leave her downstairs (which is where her exercise pen will be and primarily where we spend most of our family time) or upstairs in my bedroom? Will it confuse her if we are constantly moving her crate between the two rooms?

If I started with a puppy, I would crate train. Our boys are rescues and we got them at ages 8 ans 9 so both our boy sleep with us. Jax does wake me if he has to go out potty through the night and Freedom sleeps through without needing to go out.

The only difference for me is that I had them in a playpen (Gizmo)/xpen with a bed in it (Kandi). Both were close enough that I could hear them and reach out to stroke and comfort them during the night. When they were old enough and trained enough, we taught them how to go up and down special stairs we made at the foot of our bed. When we felt confident that each could do that on their own, then we started letting each one sleep with us if they wanted to. We also have beds in the room if they would rather sleep alone.

One word of warning...it really does become their bed. This morning I woke up once again in a weird position because Gizmo decided he wanted to sleep on my pillow and Kandi wanted the foot of the bed to herself.

I have one adult yorkie and two puppies. My adult yorkie sleeps with us and the 20 week old puppies sleep in their crates. I have seperate crates for them both downstairs in our family room as well as upstairs in our bedroom. I didn't want to keep lugging the crates around.
We plan to keep the puppies in the crates until we're prety confident they are solid with their pee pad training and can hold it longer. Depending on what type of cover you had on their bed, they could misinterpret for an Extra Large pee pad before their fully trained.
I have a white down comforter on my bed and I made the mistake of setting down on the puppies on it a week after we got her and she immediately decided to relieve herself. Totally my fault as i should have known better. LOL.

Um Pee pads on the bed... Gross

Layla is 19 weeks and sleeps with us. She will lick our hands / face when she has to go outside. She has been "house trained" for about a month now. We have never crated her but she did have a playpen (Human kind) until she learned to climb out!

She is left the run of the house when we go out and does fine, however, we make sure she goes before and asap when we get back and are not gone more than 3 hours. She also has a a pee pad in the utility room just in case.

I am off to the park with my GSD, not sure if I am taking Layla as the snow is deeper than she is tall! It sticks to her hair and she gets mad. She needs a full snow suit!

My girl will be 1 yr on the 25th. She was crated at night until she was close to the end of 5 mos. At that time she was fully potty trained and she got to come sleep in our bed. Occasionally for a couple more months she would go up and pat on my DH face is she had to go out before we woke up. Especially, on the weekends when we sleep in. Now, she is hang for as long as we want to sleep in and most of the time, she stretches and snuggles back in...like..do we have to get up now. LOL

Default sleep with us

We have 2 Yorkies now Belle and Charlie a year old. We crate trained them during the day and by around 5 months we let them sleep with us. We take them out at 11pm and then it is off to bed. Belle often wakes us up to go out for a pee but never Charlie. They are a dream and it is like sleeping with a teddy bear.

Jackson slept in his crate on a nightstand next to my bed for the first 3 weeks. He was getting up 1-2x in the middle of the night to potty. One night, I put his crate ON my actual bed and left the door open.. he slept thru the entire night. From that night on, he was on my bed! Never once had an accident and he's 1 year old. NEVER would I encourage putting a pee pad on the bed - gross. I don't even like pee pads tho so I may be biased, lol.

My Callie is 9 months old. She has been sleeping with me since she was housebroken through the night (about 4 or 5 months old I'd say). If she does have to go during the night, which is rare, she will let me know and I will let her out to get to her puppy pads.
When we first brought her home she slept in the dining room...where there is a tiled floor and puppy pads....her bed and her other fur-buddy, Maggie!
I love cuddling up with Callie in my bed at night now. She is the perfect little snuggle~buddy!
My advice would be to keep your new baby in the crate at night until she is housebroken and doesn't run the risk of falling or jumping off of your bed. Then when your baby is older...if you want to cuddle with him/her you can with less worry~

Lily sleeps in the bed with us, and has done so from the day we took her home. I figured I would notice quicker then if she got restless (which they often get when they need to relive themselves). It worked for us. The first few nights I got up one or two times during the night to let her out ( I carried her out so she wouldn't get the chance to pee on the floor). Then she started sleeping all through the night and I was very quick to take her outside in the morning. It took some time to housebreak her ( 4 months), but having her in the bed with us has never been a problem. She loves to sleep with us, cuddles up very close to me and when the morning comes she wakes me by carefylly pushing against the side og my head with her paws, and then she crawls over my chest and licks my nose...
