| Yorkie maintence at home My Yorkie, Chloe is 5 months old. I've tried to brush her, but she just goes after the brush, growls and bites, it's even worse if I try to trim her nails. I've even tried different brushes, but with no success. It's very frustrating! Any advice? |

| I try to take Laci out to play ball or for a long walk before she gets groomed, then give treats, I use cherrios as I am brushing her and talk in a nice soft tone, keep saying good girl and give her a cherrio, it does take a few months for them to get used to it!! I always do it when she is relaxed , let her sniff the brush, I kept mine of the floor , let her understand its not going to hurt her!! Time, Patients and consistancy works wonders OH yeah and TREATS

YT 500 Club Member | It took Alfie along time to accept being groomed too. Enentually it became easier to create a make shift grooming table to stand him on. He'll now except being groomed as will Rosie but they still put up a bit of a fight. Unless they're on my lap, then they're trying to push each other off just to get some one-on-one mommy time. Patience is a must, maybe do a little at a time, say the head first, play with your pup then a little bit more and so on. It will take a little longer but hopefully it will be associated with something nice. |

| She's a puppy so it should be fun, it's a learning time. Perfection will come, this is for learning. Just to introduce it & get nails cut! You never brush a dirty coat. Wet or dry. It breaks the coat off. I don't know how many yorkies you have or how often you're bathing her. But every 2 wks unless she's getting dirty. Use conditioner with your fingers to work them out tangles. I like coat handler shampoo & conditioner at this age. I'd stay away from baby shampoo. Put her on the grooming table or washer covered. Whatever you use for a grooming table. Put her there & make it fun. Hold her firmly with one hand while you groom with the other. Use a small pin brush and I found a boar brush to be to do wonders. I do not think you need a mason person if you don't have one. They don't freak out with it b/c it feels good. I also feel they like a brush better than a comb. But I still get in there w/ comb very quick. Cut nails quickly. Just play games at the same time. Just like trying to feed gerber to infants. Same concept IMO. "such a goody dood giiiiiirl" You get a cookie baby girl, oh you didn't look this way (as you cut another one. It's okay if she growls. Biting is not though. If she bites, put the alpha bitch card on her. She's going to try it, it's okay that tries. But she must learn to get this done. If you can't get through this quickly, see if theres a yorkie mom nearby that can show you. You can do it. Once you do, you will be like duh I was just afraid I would hurt her. Don't be afraid of her. She's a tough little princess |

| All the yorkie pics are so cute!! I appreicate the advice, my Chloe is a very hyper one! I cannot get her to wear the cute little clothes yet either, she takes them right off, guess she likes to be naked? Is this something she will grow into? it is so different having such a little dog, I had a golden retriever before and she was the polar opposite of a yorkie! I had a cute little carrying bag for her also, she chewed her way through it on a 10 minute ride to the vet, and had her head sticking out the whole she made...Oh geez, she's a lively one my chloe is! It's like having a dog with ADHD! |

I was out bag training a pup yesterday. I strongly suggest routine for pups. I like to use the same crate in the car, even if it's hassle. Until they're used to it, it's easier. But carry the bag, pet her while she's in it to calm her etc. It's routine. She doesn't need to be loose in the bag until she is "being mannerly". Now is a good time to introduce clothes. One new experience at a time though. You know, everything is new to to them. They're puppies. So go slow, take advantage of the cold. They don't like to be cold. So put a shirt/sweater on her after she realizes it's cold, take it off then put it on when it's been long enough for her to know it's effect. This being outdoors of course. Also, remember that she is teething. She's REALLY getting ready to get in trouble now. Keep plenty of things for her to chew. Give them to her to keep her from getting in trouble. * At 4 months old, the incisor teeth grow in * At 5 months old, the canine teeth grow in * At 6 months old, the molars grow in She will get into things. They are mischievous and she must learn her place. Now is when she is learning who is the boss. You have to make her know that it is you. She thinks the world is a dog pen set up to play for her. They really believe they're the only being. I've heard of them having ADHD, but never dumb or boring. She's the little girl you waited how long for? They're the best dogs, really. They're such intelligent funny little regal beings. Every stage is fun. | |

| Elle, I am also glad I joined this group, I seriously need the advice I'm getting!LOL! Chloe was fine when carried in the bag, but it has an option to seatbelt it in the car. I had her in the front seat with me, but she barked until I was about deaf, so i put her in the backseat on the ride home. I knew she was up to something when she got quiet! Just like a toddler. The teeth are definately coming in, I've gotten the brunt of them, believe me, they are like needles. I think I like it better when she was smaller and couldnt' jump on the furniture, now it's the first thing she does and she listens to nothing, instead looks at me like she's smiling at me and keeps going. It's the same if I try to get her to come to me, it's a big chase. I have looked into the training classes, wondering if they would help at all. Everytime she does something crazy, my husband looks at me and says "that's your girl" LOL! She is such a mess, the kids and I nicknamed her "Mess Chloe". She really is very sweet, just a ball of energy! The golden retriever was so layed back and obedient, we also have 3 persian cats and they are also very layed back, so Chloe is a real eye opener to say the least. My mom passed away in August, I cared for her in our home, it left such an empty space, I felt like I needed a little companion, this is where Chloe came in, she's definately MY baby too, follows me everywhere. |

| It's nice to have MC (aka mess chloe) to fill the empty void. It's good for all of you. She's not spolied or anything. LOL They get in trouble but they're so cute in gets them out of everything. Pupppy class is a great idea. I think most yorkies need it lots of times. lol They're the cutest ones in the class and you will be impressed with all the things MC knows she's hiding from you. |
