| Please..someone help me! Libbie will be 9 months on the 11th of this month. She STILL is not potty train. Not even close. When I first got her I started pee pad training her. She did okay. . a few accidents but not a lot. I went on a trip in July for about ten days. She was staying with the BF and he did not keep up with her training at all. When I got back from my trip since it was warm I decided to start training her to pee outside and stopped using pee pads. Well now..... SHE PEES AND POOP EVERYWHERE. If she feels like she has to go she just goes. I don't know what to do. I need help! She is my first furbaby and I love her so much. And with human food...I give her human food almost everyday if not everyday. I know...very bad! I need to stop and I'm trying to. She goes crazy every time anybody has human food and what is even worst is that she barely eats her food! ...... talking about eating her food there is ANOTHER PROBLEM. When she eats her food I have to literally stand or sit right next to her while she is eating. If I make one move she'll stop eating and run after me. She'll only take a few bites and stop. I have to sometime hand feed her to make her eat more. Should I mix can food in with her food? And another problem... she would only do commands if I have food in my hand. If I don't.... she will not care unless she wants something from me. Could it be that I'm letting her get away with too much? *sigh.... I need some serious help! I have all the time in the world now that I'm not working. Please...someone help me!

| try to bell train her for the potty training and she might get the picture. we use a service bell which can be bought at Office Depot or Office Max. take her paw and hit it on the bell to make it ding and take her outside. you must do this after every meal, after every nap (even the really short ones) and after playing or changing activities. eventually she should catch on and be able to tell you that she has to go outside on her own. for the feeding issue. do not feed from the table or your plate anymore. human food is okay as long as you know what to feed them. i make my own raw diet which is human food, but it's only that, i never feed off my plate or from the table. sometimes if she's been good and never begged for anything (which she doesn't because i never let her have food from the table so she doesn't know what she's missing) i will give a bit as i'm cleaning up, but only if i know what's in it, i never give anything with spices, only something like boiled chicken or rice. as for not eating unless you are standing right there, Victoria Stillwell just did a case like that called "Prince" so you might want to catch that episode soon, i can't remember what she told them to do, i think it was to use toys that store the food and the dog learned to work for the food to get it out, but i can't remember. also for the problems with training, i bet if you hold your hand over her for a sit even without a treat she would still follow the hand motions. and why would you not train with treats anyways. i use them all the time. clicker training is the best method though if you cannot produce a treat immediately. i use the word YES as a place marker instead of the actual clicker. YES is what she is working for, YES is the treat and it means to her that in the future a good thing will come along, maybe food, maybe a toy, maybe a treat, but YES is the thing she's after not the food itself. hope that all helps some...good luck, no offense here, but sounds like you spoiled the dog and have to backtrack which is very hard to do, but don't worry it can be done and if you work hard you'll have her broken of all those habits very soon!! |

| Potty training.... she's got WAY too much freedom. She needs to be confined to a small area of the house, either in an ex-pen or a crate, or a gated off room w/ tile or she will never understand. You need to start ALL over again if she's going all over the place. Clean all your carpets with an enzyme cleaner so she's not attracted to those spots anymore. When you can't keep your eye on her 24/7, she's in a pen or a crate. Take her out every hour when you are home. When she goes outside, praise and treat like CRAZY!! When you leave the house, she must stay in her crate or ex-pen. Gradually increase the amount of space she has as she gets more trustworthy. Confinement, consistency, and schedule and patience are VERY important in potty training. Human food should stop. I have no room to talk on this one, as Jackson gets people food and is a terrible begger. But I know what I'm doing wrong and just haven't taken action on it yet! LOL. It's difficult when he's constantly around a 5 year old and a 2 year old who give/drop food all the time, ha. But if your the only one with her most of the time this will be much easier for you than it is for me. NO more people food. Don't give in to her pretty little stares that she gives you, lol! Or if you want to give her people food, YOU eat first... then she eats. Wait until your finished and you can give them little pieces of whatever your eating. Just little, not a lot. As for her not eating her food, I've gotta picky eater on my hands too. I always mixed in wet food with his dry, there's nothing wrong with that, it got him to eat. But for 4 weeks, he's been eating Nature's Variety Instinct. Can I say he LOVES it?? Has been eating soley dry food basically for 4 weeks. Amazing!! He likes duck/turkey flavor and rabbit. Yep, sounds like you're giving her too much! You may love her a *ton* but that's not going to make for a good/happy dog. I'm gonna sound like Cesar Millan here, but I truly believe in: Disicipline, Exercise, and Affection... in that order. Loving a dog alone is not going to create a balanced dog. I highly recommend watching It's Me or the Dog on Animal Planet and Dog Whisperer on National Geographic. It will make for a better dog!

| You gotten a lot of good advice so far. Welcome to being owned by a yorkie! lol. Seriously, yes, too much freedom on the potty training. And you need to tell your bf that he needs to keep up with it! NO variations because this will only cause the chaos it has. Unfortunately, sounds like you will have to start all over with the crating, expen or gated area. As for standing there when they are eating, well good luck. Mine are 2 and 1 1/2 and they will do that as well. I am actually able to go back to cooking sometimes while they eat. People food-I am bad at that. they each get a bite of something so long as they are in the beds while we eat dinner. If they roam or don't come over during dinner, they don't get anything. What ever we have, I try to give them the least fatty. Usually they get a bite of veggie or potatoes. as for treating while doing tricks, try to quickly say 2 commands in a row before treating. Like, say "sit" and at the same time, motion and say "down". Don't give a treat until she does it. you may have to repeat it several times but try it. as she gets older and understands more, it will get easier. from time to time, just give praise for something well done and increase that praise. before you know it, you'll cut the treats way back. Good luck!

| Spoiling a dog is like spoiling a child. You wind up with a spoiled brat. I should know. I have one, a spoiled brat dog. Potty training was never an issue, thank goodness, and I do not give table food, so he does not beg at the table. He does, however, beg for treats, and I usually give in if he does not beg too often. It sounds like your dog has separation anxiety, that is why he will not eat unless you are right there with him. I saw the same program on "It's Me or the Dog", but I can't remember what Victoria recommended as I don't have that problem. Mine dog is a very good eater, thank God. |

| Can you check your local craigslist for a dogwalker or perhaps you have a teen ager in your neighboorhood you trust.. I think Laci would go crazy if I were gone that many hours....just a suggestion.. when you catch her peeing on the floor instead of putting her in Jail, put her on the pee pad and give her a treat.. Maybe you could try www.pottypatch.com!! I dont think dogs are spiteful either, so I dont think she is trying to show you!! I just think that often times a peepad looks similar to a rug so they pee on it.. That is the reason that I dont use them...try the potty patch , put a pee pad on since she is familiar with them , then after a few days remove the peepad..

YT 2000 Club Member | I just looked at Libbie's Album, what a precious little angel! It is sooooooooo easy to spoil them when they are so cute. We potty trained both our girls using the crate training method. This is what our vet suggested and it worked very well. However, our toy poodle was easier to potty train than our yorkie. Jasmine, our darling little yorkie is 9 1/2 months old now and for awhile I too thought she would never be house broken, but she finally has gotten the hang of it. When she wasn't in her crate, or out side for potty break, the only room she was allowed in was the den so I could always keep an eye on her.... and it worked. Now she can run around the house. As for feeding our girls, the vet told us to NEVER feed them from our plates and we just don't do it, so that way they don't beg, but they do get special treats, like carrots, etc. The vet also told us to always place their food bowls in their individual crates and that is where they have always eaten and their water is there also. I know you will get plenty of good advice on this site, I know I have.
