Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and congratulations. Potty training takes consistency and persistence. Make sure when you bring him in after he is outside and hasn't gone outside to put him in his crate. Then wait a bit and try again. He is young and will get it eventually. You just can't let him out of your site when he is loose or he will go wherever he wants. Others will have more tips for you.

| Make very sure that you clean up every pee/poo spot with an enzyme cleaner such as Nature's Miracle. If you don't he will always go back to those spots. I agree with Patti, if you can't hold him, have him on your lap, or aren't playing with him, he needs to be in an ex-pen or a crate. I used (actually still use) ex-pens with washable piddle pads. And remember the general rule: he will hold his pee 1 hr. per month hold he is. I even set a timer in the middle of the night to take mine out when they were puppies. Good luck.

| its all about rewarding your puppy :) I'm also a new mommy and im also potty training lol .So let me help you out a bit. first of all, it is going to take patience...LOTS OF IT. Each time your puppy pees in ur carpet..try to catch him in the act, never EVER hit him..he doesnt understand why youre hitting him. Just a loud "NO!" will do the job. after , carry him and take him to the spot where u want him to do his business...leave him there for a while. puppies like their alone time when doing their business just like us. If your puppy does a good job he needs a reward. anything he may like (you will have to try many things ...most of the time treats will do the job). he will understand little by little that he will be rewarded if he repeats wat he did... && NEVER give him treats after he has done something bad. i give my louis half a puppy biscuit since hes small...i suppose thats what you will do also..i believe your only supposed to give them 1 to 2 treats a day (so if u split them in half..thats four)...depending on ur pups size so.. splittting his biscuits helps a lot. Well i hope i have helped at least a bit. good luck with the training, once he gets the idea you'll have such a relief

| I too am trying to train a 12-wk old yorkie puppy. He does fine at night (5-hrs in his crate). Daytime we are outside every hour or 2. He goes and gets a treat (I hold out some of the dry food to use as treats)--but then comes in and uses the carpet once or twice a day. I hate keeping him crated most of the time..so while weather is nice we spend a lot of time outside. I don't know who is training whom--also I use the enzyme cleaner on the carpet--he does move to a different area each time! He has the crate thing down, but sure does his own thing when he feels like it. Also, he seems to have soft, slimy bms. He is on dry Purina Puppy Chow only - don't know what else to try--have reduced it to 3/4 cup per day (in 3 meals) from 1 c. he weighs in at 5.4lbs at 12 weeks. Is a large puppy - but is still hungry. Would eat more if we would permit it - but are trying to watch weight. Healthy as a horse the vet said. Any suggestions as to firming up the BMs and maybe not so often? Pattyo |

| Please stop feeding your Yorkie purina. It is not a very good dog food and that might be the problem with the loose stools. Yorkies need a very good quality food--like Royal Canin or Natures Balance. They are not very expensive and SO MUCH better for your dog. Somehwere on the site there is a dog food scoring system from A-F like school grades. Find this and it has great ideas! |

| I buy "BLUE" from PetSmart, the lamb flavor. It is the most expensive, BUT, it has all natural ingredients, nothing artificial, no by-products and he LOVES it. It is about $17 for a 5 ish lb bag, but will last a couple months. Please try this! Very good choice. |

| Peeing Hi: I think some pups think the carpet is one great comfortable peepad. LOL. Is it possible to confine the pup to a tiled area and put up gates to keep him off carpet?? The crate can be then left open and the pad put outside on the tile. They can then play in a larger area with no carpet disaster fears. Good Luck! |

| The first answer is, don't let him on that carpet. Period. He's learned a bad habit and if you let him keep up with it, it will just reinforce it. CLean the carpet with Nature's Miracle and don't let him in that room again for a long while. I suggest trying a crate inside an xpen with pee pads. Keep the pen small and line it with pee pads. Keep him crated for a few hours, then let him out into the pen. If he goes praise him and give him a treat. If not, back into the crate he goes. Ten minutes later, repeat the process. The first day you may think he's never going to go and he'll never come out again. Don't worry. Just keep with it. He'll eventually have to go. Then make the biggest deal out of it and give him lots of love and some free time. Free time should not be in the room with his old "potty" carpet. It should be very supervised. Then repeat, back into the crate and so on. The first few days are time consuming and you may feel like he's spending a lot of time crated. Just make sure that his free time is fun and that he gets some good exercise, and he'll be just fine. Crate time is like naptime to a pup. He will learn to potty right when he comes out of his crate, b/c he knows he gets playtime when he does. He will also learn to potty only on his pee pads, because you are giving him no other choice. Keep that up for at least two weeks, with the limited and very carefully watched free time. Then you can make your xpen a little bigger and keep the pee pads the same size, so you add some floor into the mix (hopefully linoleum or tile or something easy to clean up ). If he continues to use the pee pads and leaves the floor clean you can tell he is getting the idea. If he has an accident on the floor, go back to a smaller size with only pee pads for another two weeks or so, then try again. |

| Dog food was never an issue for me till I got my Yorkies...I did so much research on it and you really have to feel them good quality food. I use Wellness or Innova...they are both at the top of the list for GREAT dog foods. All the stuff you find at your local walmart are just not good quality dog food. I can't say that it isn't cheaper but it is worth feeding your babies to food. I also feed them chicken and sweet potatoes that I cook for them...mix it with there dry food. Yummy treats for them...hope this helps with the loose stool issues...I am sure it will...oh you can purchase these dog foods I mentioned at your local pet supplies plus...that is the only place i have found them
