| I'm getting frustrated..... Weve had our Harley for almost 3 weeks now, withing about 1 week and a half he was doing his buisness on the pads about 95% of the time, now the last few days he never does it on the pad and always on the carpet, what should i do? I'm not expecting him to do it on the pad 100% of the time but why was he so good and all of a sudden he's back to were he was when we brought him home?? Any help would be greatly apreciated. |

| Have you caught Harley in the act of peeing on the carpet and corrected him right away? Also, what have you used to clean your carpet with? My little one was used to going on the carpet at his first home, and when we trained him to go on the pad, he would still use the rugs in our house. We would just watch him constantly and when we would catch him in the act, we would quickly pick him up and place him on the pad. He would get confused at first...and just sit on it and after not being able to hold it any longer, he would go on the pad again. There are products that you can get at the pet store so that deters them from going in places you don't want them to. Also, make sure that you use an enzyme cleaner on the spots on the carpet, otherwise Harley will keep smelling his pee there, and just continue to go there. You can also use a 10% white vinegar solution to kill neutralize the areas so that he doesn't go again. Dogs tend to go where they smell pee...which is basic, so using the acidic vinegar will neutralize the odor. Hope this helps. |

| Thank you for your reply, yes we have caught harley doing it every single time since we don't really let him walk all over the house and always watch him, what we usualy do is make him smell the pee then put him on that pad and tell him he's been a bad boy, we also bought a arm and hammer oxy clean spray that we wash the stains on the carpet with. What really ticks me off is tha fact that he was so good and now he's back to 0 preaty much. Thanks!! |

Thor's Human Donating Member | Does OxyClean destoy pet odors specifically? You need to make sure you have something specifically to remove the spell of urine, like Nature's Miracle. Also, do you give him a treat when he goes on the pad?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | You are right, and unless the Oxyclean specifically says it has an enzyme cleaners in it, it may get out the "stain", but leave the protein behind which leaves a scent that dogs are drawn to. Enzyme cleaners have bacteria that actually eat the protein, so that all scent is removed. Just look for the word "enzyme" on the label. Nature's Miracle is my all around favorite, but others work well.

| when we were training to the pad, we watched like a hawk and gave treats whenever they did their business on the pad. Did you move the pad at all? I moved the pad too much one time and sure enough, Maggie squatted where it used to be and did her business. Can you put some urine on the pad so they can be drawn to it to go? Also, it may help to have a phrase to tell them to go. I use, "do your stuff". You should wait until he actually is doing it and say the phrase-over and over at first and give treat. He will get the idea! Good luck. Have patience, it will click one day.
