Oh boy! I'm having this poop eating problem too! I tried the pumpkin last week. I added 1 tsp to Sully's food and the next day he was dragging his butt on the carpet - not to be gross but I think he had a case of the flaming hoop - his little anus was pink. I tried the pineapple - no luck - I caught him last night eating the pineapple out of the poop! EWW! I clapped my hands and said NO! He ran and dropped the pineapple out of his mouth. How do I know? I stepped on it. UGH! I went to Petco and bought some Deter - Please wish me luck. | |

| Day three with Deter - I thought I was out of the woods, I came home from work yesterday and the poop was still there. Never thought I'd be so happy to see a turd on my kitchen floor. What's wrong with this picture? But alas, this morning, the "Poop Pirate" must have had a midnight snack, cause the evidence was there. He ate it again. I think I'll rename him Snoopy - cause it rhymes with Poopy. I'm trying the banana thing today. I mashed 1 tsp of it and gave it to him after breakfast. Someone told me that he's eating it cause he watches me clean it up and he's copying me....has anyone ever heard of that? |

I have never heard that a dog would eat their poop to mimic the owners cleaning it up. Also, I have never heard of bananas to stop a dog from eating poop. Like humans I would thing that would make him constipated Spinach, pumpkin, meat tenderizer, and pineapple are the only things that I have ever heard for poop eaters. You need to pick ONE remedy and stick with it for a week. If he eats the poop then you need to increase the amount you are giving until he stops eating poop. If you jump around and try one thing and then another you will not know what really works and it will not build up in his intestines and become effective in stopping him. You need to be consistent in what you are trying to do. You haven't given anyone a long enough time to kick in. You can give the pineapple as a snack and not mix it into the food too. Deter is just a form of meat tenderizer but much more expensive. What type of food are you feeding? That might be your issue too. If the food you are feeding is too high in grains they will eat their poop too.

| I'm feeding him Eukenuba. He's 7 pounds now and I give him 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup at night. When I go home on my lunch hour, he gets 2 treats. PS. I heard about the banana thing from a Cesar Milan show - thinking he was maybe missing something from his diet. |

| Use FORBID. PetVetDirect.com - Greenies, Cosequin, Frontline, Synovicre & More! It was recommended to my by my vet, and works almost immediately. I mixed the powder (which is great if your dog wont' chew pills) into some soft canned food & she ate it right up. No more poop eating here! Good luck. |

Now that you mention Cesar I do recall that episode and remembered thinks I had never heard that before. Not that I don't believe Cesar but I have read a lot about poop eating not because I still have a problem but more because it seems to be constantly brought up on YT and never came across anything about bananas. Deter and Forbid are pretty much marketing schemes that are sold by vets and pet stores to make money. I just looked up the ingredients in Deter and guess what the main ingredient is Natural Fermented Vegetable Extract, Thiamine Hydrochloride, Capsicum Oleoresin. It also says that it needs to be given for 2 to 3 weeks to see results. I was shocked at the price too~$35 A large can of pumpkin is $2.00 and pineapple is $1.25 and a jar of MSG/meat tenderizer is $3.00.
