I think all Yorkie owners are "nuts"! That's why we have this forum! ha ha. Animal Planet is fun for Yoda. But when he sees another dog or a horse, he'll start barking as he doesn't like them in his house!

Well, the funniest thing is the other day, I was watching some random movie, and the lady had a green "mask" on, the type of mask you peel off to protect or soften your skin or whatever. It was some pretty actress too, she just had a green mask on. Yoda started barking REALLY LOUDLY at it! He doesn't mind people on his TV at all, but when he sees weird things, he lets 'em have it!

I am a sucker for my Yorkie and it is hard to see them sad. Before you leave give her a big hug and kiss and talk to her. Tell her you will be back. Leave a light on, some toys, food and water, and the radio or televison on for her. The sound will soothe her. Then when you come home, before you do anything else give her your full attention and praise her for being a good girl for waiting for you at home. My little Yoda when he was a puppy, he used to get a real bad case of separation anxiety. He would chew the funiture and rip the wall paper. He was basically afraid we would not come back. He knows that we would never leave him now so everytime we're going somewhere and we tell him to stay home he goes to his little hide out and waits until we return. When I get home I drop everything to greet him. Good luck! Last edited by admin; 03-30-2004 at 10:33 PM.

Yoda loves Animal Planet. While I am working he sits on my lap and stare at the televison. He really likes the "Animal Planet's Funniest Home Videos." He starts growling when he sees other dogs. He's so funny. When I want him to sleep I turn on classical music and he's out! Last edited by admin; 03-30-2004 at 10:34 PM.

My Cry Baby I have a 16 Week old Yorkie (Jasper) whom I’ve had since March 13th. I am having a hard time understanding why he cries so much (in my opinion). For example, not all the time, but sometimes when he’s outside he cries if I leave him out there alone (for the first month I’ve been staying outside with him, I’ve been trying to cut down on this so he’s not so dependent). This does not happen every time it just seems so random the times that it does happen. I will close the gate and he will start to bark/whine/crying. I have figured this means that he doesn’t have to go to the bathroom; however he will come right in the house and use it on the floor. Also, he cries if for example if I go out to get the mail or groceries and leave in the house. Also, at least once during the night he has started crying usually at around 3:00am. He sleeps in the kitchen in his crate with the crate door open (and a baby gate keeps him in the kitchen). He just started doing this every night about a week ago. I usually get up and refresh his water, see if he needs to go outside, etc. He usually doesn’t respond to these things and I’m wondering if he is just lonely. I read about some people keeping him in their bedrooms, should I try this with the crate door closed?? He used to sleep in his dog bed in my room until I realized that he likes to poop behind my bed . Lastly, he wakes up again at about 5:45am. I noticed this because he starts barking about 30 minutes before I am supposed the get up for the day. Help…Any suggestions would be helpful in this matter, cause I feel like I’m going to need a baby carrier for him .

The first 6 months or a year, they really need to be pampered. Well, that's what I've heard and done. We didn't leave Yoda alone for more than an hour or so the first 6 months. I do believe they are lonely if you only have one, especially if they were always around their brothers and sisters in a litter along with their Mommy. If he's crying, and it's NOT due to being hungry/thirsty/needing to poop or pee, then it's usually a cry for attention, unless he has fleas or is sick. Has he gone to the vet lately for his routine checkups/shots? You could try to let him sleep in your bedroom, but he may cry so he gets to sleep on your bed. Once that happens, he'll never go back to his own crate/bed, just to warn you. :P If you let him sleep in your room with the crate door closed, usually Yorkies will NOT pee/poop in their own sleeping areas, unless they are sick or it's a real emergency and they can't hold it any longer. So perhaps try that for now... Good luck! It'll get better after the first 6 months!

As for peeing in the house, it sounds like you might have to crate him for the first several weeks. I'm not too sure of the procedure for crate-training, but everyone I know who uses it has really well-trained dogs. | |
