I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() You've got a lot of good information. I just want to add that withholding water is never a good idea. Besides being bad for her, and possibly leading to bladder infections, remember, that you are really not allowing the bladder to grow and stretch if her water is restricted. Also, highly concentrated urine smells much stronger than diluted urine. I also am a huge fan of Natures Miracle, and I love the washable pee pads too.

| ![]() you have gotten alot of great advice here... i don't tolerate peeing anywhere, but outside on the grass, i don't like the idea of peeing in the house, no matter on what... yuck pee goes outside...except for mommy and daddy lol (bit confusing i would think) i would blame most (not all) accidents on our not keeping a close enough eye on her,,,this must be done at all times... this is easier to do when they a stay at home family, and family members to visit, lol it makes the accidents worse when they look right at u and do it, lol ![]() ![]() ![]() they don't fight fair because they r so cute... good luck be positive...they will get it ![]() riley 9mos just woke up...in bed early with dad, just got up and whined at the door, and out for the longest pee, lol she is the best girl ![]() |

| ![]() I understand how you feel, I went through a period with Sophie like that. I think most pet owners have gone through a trying time. My best friend called me and complained about her 4 month old puppy (lab) not being potty trained and mentioning how labs are suppose to be smart dogs, lol. I have been there I went through maybe 3-4 weeks of learning to figure it out. It takes time, and then one day things start to click more, and you look back and think, that wasn't so bad, and things have gotten so much better. I'm just telling you, this frustration is normal, you just have to remember, that you aren't there yet, but you can be, and this is just a trying period, and things will get better. My mom has dogs that aren't 100% potty trained, they have the occasional accident, and are 3 & 5 years old, and I didn't want that. These are just some tips that have worked for me. 1. Try to remember your puppy doesn't want to make mistakes, it just doesn't know yet, and most likely it's bladder isn't optimal size to hold for too long 2. I take Sophie out every 2- 3 1/2 hours (depending on what is going on), she is about 6 1/2 months old, she can hold 7-8 hours a night when sleeping 3. I find puppy pads a bit confusing for dogs, so on bad weather days, or too cold days, I have puppy pads in my bathroom, on the tile floor, far from carpet, and I can shut the door and let her do her business...she won't do it in front of me 4. Don't restrict water, but keep on eye on your puppy, if you seen him/her drinking a lot of water, take them outside, or figure in 10-15 minutes they will need to go, especially if they are playing 5. When you see your puppy sniffing around a lot more than usual, they most likely need to potty, they sometimes try to let you know, but many times we get busy and then realize later what happened 6. This may sound crazy, but I run around outside with Sophie, because I think it helps her remember she has to go because she has ADD outside and gets caught up in the leaves, wind, and other things Good luck and I hope things get better for you and your puppy! |

| ![]() Understandable on how frustrating it is, but honestly, she is still very young... It takes patience & persistence and sometimes they take a long time. Deegan took about 1.5 yr to be completely fully trained where he didn't go in the house at all. It's not a reasonable request to expect a puppy that young to get it yet. Everyone on here has offered excellent suggestions to try. Talk a bit to calm yourself down - realize that she's just a baby still - and continue to train her. Maybe put some pee pads down in hopes if she's gonna go, she'll go on them, but be patient with her. Don't punish her for something she doens't understand. She'll get it eventually & it'll be worth it in the long run. Best of luck to you both.

There is a huge difference in being frustrated and saying that you have lost your temper and scared yourself,...and put your young puppy in a crate and that you have not lost your temper since you were a kid. Sounded pretty frightening to me. I was horrified and honestly still am. Maybe the post upset you, but it was filled with the truth and sometimes the truth hurts. If a puppy can get you that mad....like madder than you have ever been over a little bit of urine, what will happen if she is one that takes longer to housebreak...or when other problems come along. We all know how testy these little bugs can be! I am worried to be honest and think the OP needs to consider whether she is cut out for this. That is not harsh...it is reality. Some things in life are just not for us...other things are. IF it becomes too much, I hope she will consider speaking with someone on YT about rehoming this little dear.

| ![]() Lily seemed to "get it" all at once!! I thought she was never going to be broke and one day she "got it" and she does great now for the most part!! She goes on washable pads in the house but I started her outside when I first got her so she will go both when she has to now. She is 8 months old and has been doing good for about 2 months so don't give up. It is frustrating!! I think Yorkies are very hard to potty train. I have had other kinds of dogs before and I don't remember it ever being this hard to potty train them?? Hang in there and it will get better when you least expect it!! |

| ![]() Molly still has the odd accident inside and she is 3years old now. I think you just have to hang in there and keep working on it. The little pup will be able to pick up on your mood and if it makes her afraid, she will probably wee more. Be calm and matter-of-fact about things. Keep your best rugs in the cupboard till training is more advanced. make life as easy as you can while accidents are still happening...plenty of pee pads around the floor, so you can scoop your pup up and plonk her on one easily as soon as she looks like she is going to wee. It will get better eventually, but dont wait till your pup 'asks' for water...make sure it is always available. And remember that when your dog gets to its twilight years, it will start weeing and pooing on the floor all over again....so you may as well get used to it now!! ![]() |

| ![]() I used positive reinforcement with mine. A small food reward and lots of love and praise when they did it right. Potty training can be stressful for both puppy and owner. I hope you are feeling better. We are here for you.

| ![]() To the original poster: You've received some great advice here! I have felt very frustrated at times trying to train Dixie. She's the first dog I've EVER had so it was all very new to me. Of course everyone wants to tell you the best way to do it, but you have to follow your heart. Remember, they're animals and you just do your best. Take the good advice that you've been given here and try it out. Hopefully with consistency (thats the key) it will work out! There were a couple people that responded to the OP that were completely out of line: It's sad that you think you are so perfect and cannot put yourself in someone elses shoes. This is supposed to be a place people should feel comfortable coming to and getting/giving advice. You shouldn't have to worry about getting slammed for asking for help! We all make mistakes, the puppy wasn't hurt...life goes on! ![]() |

| ![]() our vet said at that age they are physically incapable of holding it. mine is going to be 12 weeks monday and he will pee sometimes three times in a row with five minute intervals..then he'll go hours. I think he gets distracted so he stops peeing to check something out... Anyway, it's fine to put puppy in the crate when you feel you are getting frustrated. But try to do it unemotionally and give puppy a treat in the crate... b/c you don't want puppy to think that crate=punishment. Also, puppy is too young to understand that peeing on the floor is wrong, so punishment will only feel cruel. But again, putting him in the crate is smart if you feel you are losing it. It protects you and puppy. Also, can you keep him in an area that won't hurt your floors if he messes? We have no carpeting and only hard wood floors and we keep him in that area (which is where we hang out too), so it's no biggie if he has an accident. And if you smell pee that is no good. That means you have to clean it up much more quickly and with a solution that removes the odor. If you can smell it, the puppy can definitely smell it and will continue to pee there due to the smell. |
