our vet said at that age they are physically incapable of holding it. mine is going to be 12 weeks monday and he will pee sometimes three times in a row with five minute intervals..then he'll go hours. I think he gets distracted so he stops peeing to check something out... Anyway, it's fine to put puppy in the crate when you feel you are getting frustrated. But try to do it unemotionally and give puppy a treat in the crate... b/c you don't want puppy to think that crate=punishment. Also, puppy is too young to understand that peeing on the floor is wrong, so punishment will only feel cruel. But again, putting him in the crate is smart if you feel you are losing it. It protects you and puppy.
Also, can you keep him in an area that won't hurt your floors if he messes? We have no carpeting and only hard wood floors and we keep him in that area (which is where we hang out too), so it's no biggie if he has an accident.
And if you smell pee that is no good. That means you have to clean it up much more quickly and with a solution that removes the odor. If you can smell it, the puppy can definitely smell it and will continue to pee there due to the smell. |
