Default you guys... im gonna snap.

I have done everything and i have been consistent. I had to put Leelu in her crate because i lost my temper and i scared myself. she has been in there ever since.(bout an hour) She is young (4ish months) and i am doing my best to be patient. but she doesnt get it at all. we went for a walk and not 10 minutes later she did BOTH on the floor. SHE JUST PEED OUTSIDE. I even control her water intake. I dont think she can be potty trained. I feel i am going to have to find another home for her. and its breaking my heart. i have listened to everything you all have said and i have spoken to two dog trainers. i dont know what to do. i havent lost my temper since i was a kid. i feel like i want to cry. If she cant be potty trained i have to get rid of her! i have NEVER done anything like that before. Any words? because ALL I SMELL IS PEE!!!!

She is still a baby. Sometimes it takes awhile but she will get it!

Ill take her!! I cant belive you lost you temper over a 4 month old peeing on the floor. PLEASE whatever you do dont have kids. If you have read everything and talked to a so called dog trainer then you would understand it could take up to a year for a dog to be trained. You should never put a puppy in its crate for punishment and you should never control its water!!! Your puppy should have clean water all day. If you feel you cant wait for a year for your puppy to be potty trained then PLEASE find him a new home.

Sorry for being so blunt but its how I feel.

I'm sorry your having problems , but she is only 4 months old. Some dogs learn quicker than others , but most every dog will take at least eight months to a year to be trained , and even then accidents can happen.

At four months old she needs free access to fresh clean water. Do you have a big play yard ? If not I would invest in one and let her play in there with a pee pad and only in there when she is not out with you.. Also alot of times when puppies play they have to go again soon after. So even if she pees outside, if plays some more she will most likely pee and maybe poo again.

If you want her trained at four months with no accidents ,I think that is being unrealistic. We can all lose our tempers but you have to remember it is like yelling at a four month old baby because she doesn't know not to pee in her diaper. Just take her out and try again , she will get it if your being consistant.

Default ok...

Just so we are clear. I give her water all the time but i do it rationally so i know her schedule. I do not deprive my baby of necessities. She asks for water and i give her water. That way i have a better idea of when she needs to go out and she learns to ask for things.

I can understand wanting her to learn a schedule , but at four months I think it would be better to just let her have free access to food and water , jmo. Are you using pee pads or training to outside only ? Are you home with her during the day or is she crated ?

My Baron is 1 year old. I've had him for 6 months now. He is still not housebroken and he wears a belly band for marking too!! I used to yell and get upset!! It was not good for me or him and accomplished nothing!! Now, I just clean up the mess, Take a deep breath and try again... Someone on here told me it takes longer sometimes with smaller breeds. When he goes on the pee pads he gets a treat and when he doesn't he gets nothing as a treat!! I have 2 kids and still am not the most patient person in the world. It doesn't make you a bad person, just human... I Love my kids and my furbutts to death. Just keep trying, your little girl will get it eventually, and so will my Baron. Blessings to you, Baron's Mom

If you can tell us what you are doing now, we can tell you how to improve your training techniques. All dogs can be potty trained, it's just a matter of how dedicated the owner is and how long it takes for the dog to "get it". Don't lose your temper. You've come to the right place.

Don't get too frustrated..... it won't help you or Leelu. It took a LONG time to get Shelby & Seymour trained...... they do use a peepad when we are gone for a long time, or when we are traveling. Have you thought of trying them?...

Yorkies are notorious for being hard to potty train. If you are going to get upset everytime she has an accident, be prepared to be upset a lot. My Daisy is 2.5 yrs old and will still have accidents.

4 months is awfully young to have such high expectations. You have got to keep your cool. Please don't punish her by putting her in her crate. Her crate should be a safe haven for her, not her time out area.

Get her a large xpen for the kitchen or a tiled area and put her food, water, toys and pee pads in there if you're afraid she'll pee on carpet.

I feel bad for your puppy

BTW, any expert, including a vet will tell you that your baby should have access to fresh clean water at all times.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest getting Nature's Miracle or something similar -- that will clear up the pee smell, and remove any trace scent that might tempt your darling to mark that spot again.

If it makes you feel any better, here is my story: Thor is 2 1/2 years old. When I first started taking care of him, he was not fully housebroken, and I took him out eight times a day or more. I started gradually cutting back, and now I can take him out as little as three times per day.

However, if I play fetch with him indoors, he will pee, even if he has JUST been outside. He doesn't seem to think anything of it. He will lift his leg and go right in front of me. At the moment, I will only toss his sock one or two times so he doesn't get too worked up.

Also, this morning, I was feeling sluggish. I got up late, and decided to feed the dogs before I took them out for their morning walk. I started slowly getting ready to get outside, and... you know where this story is going, right? I found a puddle of pee in the kitchen and a pile of poop next to my door. The way I see it, Thor keeps me honest. We get out of bed together, I go to the bathroom, and then I take him to his bathroom. That's the schedule.

Also, this may be a little new-agey for you, but have you examined why you got so angry? Is it because you feel like your dog is peeing to spite you or something? I think if you can figure out what upset you so much, you'll be more likely to be able to control your anger, because it would be very sad if you lost your temper with your puppy. As others have said, she is still very young and will need time to grasp the whole pottying concept. I bet it took you a lot longer than four months!

This isn't meant to be judgmental, so I apologize if it sounds that way.

Everything she just said is right - I have 2 girls 2 years apart - my 1st (Chanel) trained in less than 2 weeks - my 2nd (Cheri) took 11 MONTHS .....and that was with a yard - an older sister and wee pads -

she needs water at all times - small breed puppies have tiny bladders so they need to go much more often than bigger breeds -

every dog is different but please don't take your frustrations out on your puppy - you'll only stress her out and make it worse ....and please - never hit a dog - that only makes them more fearful and will make training even harder...not to mention - you could really hurt her -
Good luck

totally understand how frustrating potty training can be. Being consistant is the most important concept. At pet smart they suggest putting your pup on a leash (use of a harness style for Yorkies) and this way you know where your pup is at all times...so you can watch her and when you feel that she is about to do her business...take her out side or if you want to pad train her..you can take her to her pee pad and tell her "go potty"...then if she pees..be sure to praise her and give her a treat immediately each and every time.
Crating her for mistakes will not train her...she will not know what she is being put in the crate for. The crate should be a "good place" and a safe and happy place that your pup will like to go to.
It takes time and patience....x-pens work great for when you can't watch her all the time..put her food, water and pee pads and her crate with her bed in it...it's a safe place for her and gives you some peace of mind.
Good Luck :-)
