| Help with Potty training!!!! I have a really tiny baby girl, Lola, that is 16 weeks old. When we brought her home at 12 weeks, the second day she had a bad weekend with hypoglycemia and had to spend 3 nights at the emergency clinic. She is a very picky eater, although she now eats good if I hand feed her baby food. I am afraid not to do this with what happened when we first got her! She is now 1.5 lbs and I am having the hardest time getting her to go potty consistently outside. She will go when I take her out, but then as soon as I bring her in, she will go again. I will stay out with her for 15 minutes and sometimes she will even go twice. When she does go inside, it is usually in her playpen on her pee pee pad, but if she were on the floor it would just as easily be there, I'm sure. I hate to keep her crated all the time, but I hate for her to get used to going anywhere just to relieve herself, also. She is so full of energy and wants to play, I love to have her sit next to me in her playpen with her toys, but am I creating an atmosphere that allows her to go anytime? I think sometimes when we go outside that she even "fakes" it so that we'll come back in. Is this normal? If I keep taking her outside every hour or so will she finally get it???? I really want her to be trained to go outside, if possible. |

| She's 16 weeks and teeny tiny. I wouldn't expect to much. Just keep her in her pen when she is inside and keep practicing going outside. Give her another month or two and she will start to get it. Her bladder is probably like the size of a thimble.

| Thanks so much for your replies. She is just so tiny and precious, I don't really know what to expect and don't want to make any mistakes. Any help and advice anyone can give is greatly appreciated. I have bought all of the books and researched the topic all that I can, but she is not doing it "by the book"!!! I'll just keep at it. Thanks again. |

| Oooh that is tiny! I agree, she is still so young (Uno will be a year old and we are still perfecting that "potty training" thing) and a majority of puppies go twice when going to the bathroom. I know with Uno we would go outside, he would pee, see a butterfly or something and his attention would be GONE! Then he would "finish" his business. I have also heard smaller dogs are slightly more difficult to train, although I have no clue where the proof is on that one it's just something I have personally noticed. Good luck! Things will get better, trust me. If for some reason this issue isn't cleared up after awhile and she pees quite frequently perhaps it could be a kidney issue. But it's most likely just her being a baby |

| Parker is now 14 weeks old (we have only had him a week) and he is not grasping going potty outside, we put in doggie doors and put him out every few hours, we wait 30 mins some times and he doesn't go then the minute we get in the house he goes. I know he is just a baby but he doesn't seem to grasp it at all. When he has gone outside we do reward him with a treat, but we are looking for anyadvice. |

| I know how frustrating this can be! Are you taking him out on a leash? The first couple of weeks I had Lola home, I was taking her out without a leash and not having much luck. I then did some research and tried the "crate training method" which seems to be working a little better. The only problem with us is that even though Lola will go outside, she will come right in and go again! I know she is still young - 16 weeks - but you hear of all of these others that are having such better luck and it makes you wonder what you are doing wrong. Lola seems to catch on, then the next day it is as though she forgets everything. Maybe these smaller babies have a harder time. How small is your baby? I think we have no choice but to keep trying and to follow any advice that anyone with more experience wants to pass on!!! |

| I'm having the same problem Coca was born 2/17 and goes on the paper for #1, but will go everywhere else for #2 and people have been telling me the scolding thing with newspaper, heck I didn't even spank my children so you know I can't spank him. And he does so well with #1 it's funny he can be on one side of the house and take off running to get to his paper but not for #2 will be patient and keep trying.

| ok first off welcome! and with the potty training... the first month is hard... I would get sooooooooooooooo frustrated and would come on here and vent... but you just have to keep at it... Gracie has been potty trained for over a month now and she will be 5 months old on the 1st of may! so just keep doing what you are doing... PRAISE PRAISE everytime they go outside ... and with lola going potty right after you bring her in... I would try bringing her in and then going to the door and if you use bells or if you want her to bark to let you know when she needs to go.. do that and then take her out again... and praise!! good luck i use the bells and it helped alot I think to kind of let Gracie know how she was suppose to let me know she needed out to go potty!

Donating YT Addict | Wstrayhan, I have the exact same problem but Ozzy pees on the floor but will always run to the pad to poo. He was 98% pee trained until about 4 1/2 months old then seemed to forget how to pee on the pad We are working on it. I bring him to his pad every few hours to pee and hope one day he remembers to go there on his own!

| I am trying the crate method, but the minute we come in he pees. We are trying putting the crate open in front of the doggie door all the time, tight to the doggie door so he can come in and out of that to the crate, and keeping him in the house to play eat etc for 30 mins at a time then back to the crate for a few hours. One accident today but that was at my grandmothers visiting. |
