| Help For Separation Anxiety We rescued our little Gracie from an abusive home. She is an absolute sweetie, but is so very attached to us that we are unable to leave her alone at all. She will stay in a crate, as long as someone is right in the room with her but if we leave the room for even 1 minute, she goes crazy. The only way we are able to leave the house is to put her in a room with our other 2 little ones. Any suggestions about getting her to settle down in the crate. As she was abused, she is extremely afraid of loud noises. We are trying to make her life with us as "UN" tramatic for her as we can because we want to make up for the abuse she has had in her young life. She is only 11 months old.

| Maybe you can cover the crate? The "den" feeling might make her feel safer. And are you sure she's not quieting down? Franklin will bark his head off about about 5 minutes... then he goes and does his own thing.

| I am currently encountering this very same thing with Bijou, as long as he can see me he is fine, if not he starts to make a racket and bang and scratch. I try to ignore it as it will only encourage him that everytime he kicks up a stink I will rush to him. Bandit was like that and now he can care less if I stay or go out the door ...I think it takes time, when they know you will be back they will quiet down. DONT GIVE in to him. Cover the crate it works |

| When I first got Milo we had this issue. Then I realized I was causing a lot of it. I would pause if only for a second or talk to him before leaving. That is a big part of it you have to not acknowledge that you are leaving. Then I used to practice leaving, I would leave for a Min. than come back this way he knew I was coming back. I would do this like once an hour for a few days then everyday I would increase by a few seconds, never acknowledging him when I leave I just go. Now when I leave he knows the signs he goes to the window waits for me to get in the car and then leaves the window. Oh also when you practice sometimes put a coat on and sometimes take the keys you need to change up your routine they are very smart, and can figure out your patterns quickly. Good Luck Cheryl |

| My sister's went throught he seperation anxiety as he got older, they told her to leave a radio on. but as his hearing and vision declined in his old age, she finally just took him to doggy day care while working! I think most settle down after you are really gone, but I would try leaving a radio on! They also told her to leave a recorder on to see how long he carried on- he was still going when a 90 min, tape ran out!

| Thanks for the help. I'm not sure if she quiets down after we leave. But we have noticed that if she goes potty in the cage while we're gone if is all over everything by the time we get back, so I suspect that she doesn't ever settle down. We'll try leaving the TV on for her and see if this makes a difference. Also I will try covering the crate to see if that will make her feel more secure. I'll let you know if anything works.

| I'm having the same problem with Belle. She is SO attached to us, and I know it's our own fault for spoiling her so much. She would cry and whine every time we leave the room. We got Ariel thinking she would stop crying if she had a little sister to play with ... VERY wrong. She STILL cries when she's left alone without a human. Any ideas? |

Dont pick her up no matter what. IGNORE IGNORE IGNORE is what I do they eventually settle down. Bijou was horrible but now he is improving day by day, keep going in and out the room making the intervals longer and longer, when she realizes you will come back she will eventually stop......I HOPE | |
