| How long did it take? How long did it take for your Yorkie to learn what the pee pads are for? I don't necessarily mean how long it took for them to be completely potty trained...I'm just wondering how long did it take for them to get used to running to the pee pad when they have to go? I've had my little Mocha for a week now and he will be 13 weeks old tomorrow. So far, he's only gone on the pee pads twice at his own will. All the other times he's gone on it, I've had to put him there. I have the doggie litter box by Purina and I put a pee pad in it. I take him to the litter box when he wakes up, after eating/drinking and after playing. Sometimes I will spend 20 minutes with him putting him in the litter box. He won't go potty at all, and then the minute he steps out of the litter box, he goes pee or poop I also bought him a sofa bed and for some strange reason, the only time he will touch it is to go poop on it! I try to watch him like a hawk, but it seems like the only time I take my eyes off him (for litterally 3 seconds), he'll go potty on the carpet Can anyone offer me any tips or advice? Thanks in advance! |

| Bella caught onto the potty pads pretty quick on her own. I think there's sprays you can buy at petco/petsmart to attract them to the potty pads.

| pp pads I find that the pp pad needs to be close to them, small place first..a pen when you cannot be there, then I let my guys have the run of the kitchen, and me spending my time there with computer...taking her outside lots, and also having the pad close by,,the better she does the more space she gets.. she is young and goes outside in the morning and does both jobs, then comes in a has a second poop right at the kitchen mat..I never panic at that. she seems to go out to pp almost all the time now.. if she pp away from the pad, i clean it up with the new pad, then her scent is on it, maybe that helps her...she is 5 months old and mostly goes outside.. she is still a long way from being trained but is doing well..i just try not to panic too much, praise lots when she does good, and say you pp or poop outside when she does it in the house, they soon learn those words and what they mean... my pooh got his name as he went outside to pp, but pooped on the floor then barked to out side to pp..he eventually got it... but I got a boy that was not trained at 7 months, put wraps on him and he did not like being wet, and soon was trained, it seemed he was not and then it was like omg, i think he is trained..so they work..i used markout..it is online for those that read this and have males... pooh's mum pooh's mum |

| Thanks for the Markout suggestion, I just googled it and it seems pretty convincing. I was thinking about getting regular belly bands, but I might give the Markout a try Quote:

| mark out and glad to help glad to help omg, to train a 7 month old male that had not been trained and got him with him for him to know no better then to just cock anywhere and everywere, and today two years later he is trained so well...it did not take that long, get the package of 4, you do not want bulk, i called them and talked to them re size the small you get 4, but oh after awhile he would get it off and lick and clean himself, and sure learned to hate it..just make sure you go outside often and take it off, do not let him think he can use it outside it defeats the purpose..i highly reccomend them' glad I was able to help.. I think a new thread on these would be of huge help for many,,but not sure how to do it..but i would love to see that as a new thread... pooh's mum |

| Stick with it. It only took a few days for mine to start getting the concept of going on the pad, but I tried for 2 months to make him go outside! I finally gave up and am back on the pads. For some reason, getting them to pee on the pads is a lot easier than getting them to poop on it. I think they have a tendency to want to do these in different places. Are you giving him a special treat after he potties on the pad? After mine goes, I say, "good potty" and immediately give him a piece of cheese. Now, I can get him to pee on command, mostly because he wants the piece of cheese! |

| Bella is 18 weeks and does great in small places (in her room with her crate and pad--no accidents). If I am in the computer room and have it gated off with a pee pee pad for her, she will go on it. If she has more space, she will go if she is close by it--I haven't seen her make a run for the pad or anything like that. We are still in intense training mode (LOL!), but I try to give treats and tons of praise when she does it right! Definitely a work in progress! I'm going to keep checking the post for more tips!

| All the advise people have discussed is really good! To answer your question, it took my Aira 3 weeks before she would actually go the pad on her own, without us having to place her on it. We got her at 12 weeks and one huge advantage with the training is that I was home on study leave for the first month we had her so could focus on potty training all day. If you are away during the day it might take a little longer for your pup to catch on. Aira is now 5 1/2 months and she is about 98% with peeing on the pad and 90% with pooing on it and knows she can do both outside. Until recently she would hold her pee and poo on walks until she was back inside and could go on the pad. Good luck! |

| When I first brought Bitsy home at 9 weeks old, I had the bathroom and hallway all ready for her. I put down a washable pee pad beside the toilet. I also sprayed the Potty Training spray on the pad. The minute I put her in her play area (bathroom/hallway), she sniffed around, found the pee pad and promptly peed on it. When she's in her play area, she always goes on the pad - for both poop and pee since Day 1. Now, outside her play area was longer. When I'm at home, I let her have free run of the apartment. Because the gate I have to gate off her play area and the rest of the apartment is such a pain to remove, I don't remove it - so basically shes INSIDE her play area or OUTSIDE her play area (rest of the apartment). I therefore need another pee pad outside the play area. It took her two weeks to understand that when she is outside her play area, that she needs to use the pee pad beside the balcony door and not the rug. It's been a month and so far she's been accident free. When we're playing and she needs to go, she makes a beeline for her pee pads. Although I'm not complaining, I wish she would pee outside more often than she pees inside. I try to praise her like crazy when she does pee outside, but I can never tell if she's peeing or just squatting for fun. As for pooping, she prefers to poop outside. |

| Jake caught on to the pads right away. But, his breeder had been using them in his pen so he was already familiar with them. Jackson also caught on easy, but he's still young so he does forget at times. Jake was very easy to train. Jackson isn't doing too bad so far!
