When I first brought Bitsy home at 9 weeks old, I had the bathroom and hallway all ready for her. I put down a washable pee pad beside the toilet. I also sprayed the Potty Training spray on the pad. The minute I put her in her play area (bathroom/hallway), she sniffed around, found the pee pad and promptly peed on it.
When she's in her play area, she always goes on the pad - for both poop and pee since Day 1.
Now, outside her play area was longer.
When I'm at home, I let her have free run of the apartment. Because the gate I have to gate off her play area and the rest of the apartment is such a pain to remove, I don't remove it - so basically shes INSIDE her play area or OUTSIDE her play area (rest of the apartment). I therefore need another pee pad outside the play area.
It took her two weeks to understand that when she is outside her play area, that she needs to use the pee pad beside the balcony door and not the rug.
It's been a month and so far she's been accident free. When we're playing and she needs to go, she makes a beeline for her pee pads.
Although I'm not complaining, I wish she would pee outside more often than she pees inside. I try to praise her like crazy when she does pee outside, but I can never tell if she's peeing or just squatting for fun. As for pooping, she prefers to poop outside. |
