| Hello, Yes I am now back, and I do in fact have a response, for the person who was wondering were I was. First off, thank you to those of you who actually gave me a nice response. I really do appreciate it!! The rest of this post is not intended for you! As for the rest of you, I was unaware that this site was a clic for snotty people! No where did I say that I had 5 lb dogs in a kennel. I do own a yorkie, but did I say that was who I was keeping in sawdust? Second, I do agree that sawdust would not be practical, in fact it was shavings (not as dusty, but still not good), and I tried it one time for a large dog on the advice of someone who I trusted. Obviously if I had been happy with that, I would not be asking for advice now. I am only trying to increase the comfort level of my animals. I did not say they lived in a kennel 24 hours a day, did I? You know nothing about me, yet you are all having a good time insulting me. Is this elementary school? As for you who asked if I keep mothers and pups on sawdust to sell for profit, are you for real? You came to that conclusion from my question??? I don't think a lot of 'puppy millers' browse the internet for advice on improving their pets health and comfort! I really thought that I could get some good advice on this site, not just about this one issue, but for all dog related issues. I love my pets very much, and want what is best for them. To jump to such conclusions because I asked 1 innocent question illustrates just how rude and narrow minded some people are! I can't believe you people! How incredibly childish and arrogant! If you were really such animal lovers, would you not try to give me good advice? People like those of you who are mocking me should really be ashamed of yourselves!!!!! I guess I have to be part of some elitist club to not be labelled 'cruel' to my pets from the judgemental ones on this site!! |

| We have two of these for my older beagle mix. They are indoors, but they are meant for outside. Do a search for coolaroo dog bed, I've found them as cheap as $17 online. (I got mine at Petsmart, think the second one was $13). They can be washed off with a hose, allow for lots of air circulation, and keep them up off the floor when sleeping. Hope this helps. Here is a picture I got online. (this is not my dog)

| Just asking, because it is relevant..... what kind of dogs are you housing in your kennel? It might be valuable to know in recommending appropriate bedding. Old blankets and quilts might be a good choice. It would be easier to wash and dry them than it would regular dog beds. Owing a horse farm, I do understand the difference between saw dust and shavings...... and for all to know...... nice clean fluffy shavings are NOT dusty and make a GREAT place to take a quick nappipoo -- my horses love me when I strip their stalls and add all new shavings.... and Boo the Boxer has a ball playing in the shavings pile. On the other hand, it will only take one good roll in the shavings and after the hours it takes to comb them all out and the mess it makes, the shavings pile will be an "off limits" area to all yorkies! |

| I'm truly sorry if anyone here offended you. But, to be fair, this IS a yorkie forum. OF COURSE we are going to think that you are talking about YORKIES when you come to a YORKIE forum and ask this question without clarifying. We quite often talk about other types of dogs and pets and animals on this site, but we can only assume you are talking about yorkies when you don't clarify. With that in mind, it is obviously not good to keep yorkies in a kennel with sawdust or newspaper as bedding. It simply isn't. No one meant anything rude or mean by our comments...but like you, we want what is best for pets and all yorkies, and when we assume that the pets you are talking about are yorkies, I feel that these are appropriate responses. |

| We live on a farm, and keep a few large mixed breed dogs to help out with the sheep, goats, etc. It is sometimes not practical to have them inside the house, although we consider them 'house dogs' for the most part. In the muddy weather, after they have been running through the fields, I keep them outside until I can deal with the mess and allow them back inside. I try to keep my 'kennel' very clean, and hose it down when necessary. And yes, there has been occasions when my Yorkie has stayed out there for short periods - don't freak out, she prances right in, and has all the comforts of home including toys, air conditioning, heat, etc. I wanted something clean and comfortable. My Yorkie is small and doesn't do any damage, but the larger dogs occasionally chew if I put out blankets and soft bedding (although they don't when in the house). Rubber mats don't work if the dogs are wet because then they don't dry. Newspaper can get messy if the dogs get playing and toss it around. I really like the post with the Coolaroo bed idea, but think they may chew it, as well as the Make your own beds site.. Sorry for not saying that the dogs were not all Yorkies, but really wasn't expecting the response regardless. |

| I wasn't going to respond, but I can't keep my mouth shut. I never make "fun" of people on here, but YOU need to understand something...there are A LOT of idiots that come on this site JUST to cause trouble. They ask dumb questions just to get people riled up. Sorry, but I and a lot of others saw the word "sawdust" and jumped to conclusions or thought this was a joke...considering you made one post, then disappeared. That's how it usually works. Nobody called you a puppymill, but were disturbed (and still are) about you using newspaper or sawdust/wood chips for a Yorkie. The only animals I would think to use wood chips would be for little rodents like Guinea Pigs. You mentioned nothing about those animals, so we figured you were refering to your Yorkies. And, it doesn't matter if you consider yourself a puppymill or not...Yorkies shouldn't be in kennels!!!! They should be inside with their owner snuggled up. I would die before I let me dog sleep outside. So, sorry if you got a sour taste in your mouth, but we LOVE Yorkies here on YT, and will do our best to keep them safe and comfortable...even if it means "telling people how it is."

First of all, YOU posted in a YORKIE FORUM, under BREEDER TALK. If this was supposed to be about other animals, we have an OFF TOPIC and BROTHERS AND SISTERS section, which are clearly visible. Ok lets just assume you didn't know what those sections were for, why not clarify what animal the bedding is for? I think the fact that your post is in a yorkie forum with a vague description of your questions is what got you under fire. We care about animals, especially our yorkies and they DON'T belong outside. They belong indoors. And yes, I have found that people with kennels are usually the ones that keep the breeding stock there to make money off them like millers do. And yes, JUST from your question I came to that conclusion. So I would turn that finger around. If you don't want people to assume you are keeping your yorkie in horrible conditions, then you should specify that it is not a yorkie you are inquiring information about.

Sorry there was a misunderstanding here. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I meant nothing rude or hurtful by any of my posts. I really like the Coolaroo bed for a large dog. I'm sure they make it out of some sort of material that is chew-proof. It also looks very cool. It is completely understandable that you may want to keep your big dogs in a "kennel"-type place after they have run all over the farm and are muddy and such. I can also understand letting the yorkie stay in there for short periods of time (hopefully not at night). I know if it were MY yorkies, they think they are big dogs anyway and would wnat to be where the big dogs are! I'm sure that is how yours is too. Best of luck finding the perfect comfortable place for your animals to rest. Sorry again about the misunderstanding. I hope you'll stick around YT. I would really love to see pics of all your furbabies! | |

| Thank you all so much, I guess we all jumped to conclusions. I understand you all love your babies very much and would not like to hear of any Yorkie in bad conditions. Please understand that I do take great care and pride in all of my animals, and REALLY got my back up when I felt I was being accused of treating them poorly. By the way, I have NEVER posted anywhere on any site before, this is all new to me , and I did not realize that I should have posted in another section. I hope we're all good now!! |
