| Totally Freaking out!! Ok, I need good thoughts ,advice, critcism, anything at this point! I rescued Foxy at the end of March around the 25 or 26th, well as I had told all of you she was in heat at this point. Poor thing had obviously been used as a puppymill dog and her estimated age is around 5 years old. Well it seems like overnight she appears to be pregnant. Now I know that she has not been out of my sight and I have no male dogs, so if this is so it had to happen prior to my adopting her. I thought at first I was over feeding her and she was getting chunky, but I swear that her teats have grown overnight and I am freaking! First off, I know NOTHING about breeding, whelping, pregnancy, etc. Second of all, this poor girl has been through enough without having to have more babies! She is going to the vet first thing Monday, so they can HOPEFULLY tell me I am crazy and she isnt preg. Her spay is scheduled for May 31st. My question to you all , should I go ahead with the spay and abort the puppies, if there are any, or is she too far along at this point to think about that? Any ideas? I am totally freaking right now! THanks!

| I have no advice for you, but I definitely have no criticisms for you! If this happened before you adopted her, it is not your fault and you could not have known that she was pregnant. I just hope you find out she is not pregnant at your vet appointment.

| Me too! I hate to say that if the vet says we can abort the puppies, that is what we will do. (thats what I am thinking at this point)..Just for the simple fact this poor thing has been through sooo much, with her over breeding, her teeth, everything..wow, I am so stressed! And then the factor of what size dog did she breed with , ughh..I dont know how you breeders deal with this, it has totally ruined my weekend!

| If she hasn't been around any males she might just be having a false pregnancy. Whatever you decide I will totally support your decision. I missed your story but did she come from a rescue unspayed? Poor little darling does not need to be going through another pregnancy

No unfortunately I dont think I have told everyone the FULL story of how Foxy came to live with me. I lost my beloved Roxie right before Christmas, and swore I wasnt going to get another yorkie, or dog for that matter. And I found myself on Craigslist one day, and the ad said the girl was moving and couldnt take Foxy with her, made her sound just wonderful. I drove all the way to Asheville (5 hours from me), and when I got there , the dog she described was NOT the dog that I was looking at. She looked like death. My husband actually said she looks a dead dog only alive. She was in rotten shape. Underweight, her teeth horrible (a stage 3), and of course was in full blown heat. Well me with my bleeding heart, had to take her , I wasnt going to leave her in that condition. The girl claimed she thought the dog was fixed, blah blah blah. But the dog was in full blown heat. I later did my research and this chick turns out to be gasp...a BYB. found a website with Foxy on it, where she had numerous litters. She later mails me AKC papers, with some other dogs name on it and her supposed medical records. I am her 5th owner, and she hasnt seen a REAL vet since 2007. The vet records were from her original owners in Michigan and I am in NC> I was told she was 4, turns out shes over 5. So even though I got her from this lady I call her my rescue. Some might not agree with me, but I wouldnt sell her back to that lady for 1, 000 dollars. So thats the complete story, I obviously got her from a BYB, but its partly my fault because I didnt do better research and regardless I am glad that she is away from that woman. But now I deal with the consequences of not knowing her complete history, but I guess thats my fault.

| Awww, so glad she gets to spend the rest of her life being pampered and treated like a pet rather than a breeding stock. Hope she's not preggo and that soon she will be spayed. Good luck

| Thanks! I guess I hadn't mentioned her whole story before, because I didnt want the judgemental stuff...but..I did know better, but I do NOT regret adopting her one bit and would do it again in a hearbeat! Thanks for understanding.

Could she be with whelp, yep knowing the scenario surrounding on how you obtained her. Should you abort the pups? That decision should be left up to your vet first and you 2nd. And should be dependent on your little girl's health. Being that she was emaciated and not in the best condition when you obtained her, how healthy are these pups. Keeping in mind the older a girl is the more problems she may encounter with the whelp. Also, keep in mind are you willing to lose your little girl if you continue with this pregnancy. How sad that after all you've done to give her a wonderful rest of her life, that you lose her now. Next are you in a position financially to handle everything should anything go wrong and even if nothing goes wrong it is an expense. Obtaining supplies and making sure the pups and mom have everything prior, during and after the whelp. Can you find reputable homes for these pups. And if these pups are not healthy (since you don't know their background) are you willing to take that responsibility. Oh! If you don't work, that's great, but if you do are you able to take 12 weeks off. From the first due date (whenever that is) and until the pups are 12 weeks of age you life is not yours, you are tied to your home.... I'm not attempting to scare you but, give you the reality of what is ahead of you. No matter what you decide, I wish you the best and hope you make the right decision for your girl. Oh! There is also another thing that might be considered, closed pyometritis. It happens to older girls and usually around 3 weeks after their heat cycle. If this is the case, an emergency spay is in order.

If I were you, I would get that breeder on the phone and insist she tell you if there is a possibility that she could be pregnant and who the dad could be. It might help to decide what to do with her spay VS puppies. I really feel horrible that you have been put into this situation but actually pretty typical of some slimy breeders.

All of above scare the heck outta me! And I appreciate your post! I want to do what is best for Foxy, and if that means aborting pups then so be it. I will be taking her in Monday, and hopefully get the answers I need. I agree, she has come too far, to be backsliding now. Thanks.
