Microchipping

Sorry JeanieK to go OT here but wanted to address 816Tuesday's misconceptions regarding why breeders microchip.

USDA (commercial) breeders are required to keep identification records of their stock. Collars, tattoos or microchips are used. Microchips are inexpensive and permanent, tattoos are more time-consuming and difficult to do, collars (little paper tags commercial breeders use) aren't reliable, as they tend to deteriorate, fall off, get lost, etc. The only "microchip agenda" with commercial breeders is; they are supposed to comply with USDA regulations and it's the cheapest, easiest method.

I don't know if most U.S. exhibitor/breeders microchip but if so, would imagine it is so any puppy they've sold (if lost) is identifiable.

I don't believe there is any microchipping "breeder agenda" but do have my thoughts regarding your agenda. You advocating microchip removal by pet owners is not only dangerous, it is sick!

Removing *any* foreign body that is INSIDE OF a dog should be done by a Vet.

Not to mention that the way in which you described the "ease" of removing this item from the body, doesn't even make physiological sense in terms of how the skin works and how scar tissue is developed. It would not be 'painless' or safe. Please do not post this information again.

Both of my pups are chipped, I have never been able to feel my Shi-Poohs but can feel Maci's. At her 12 week visit I asked my vet why I could feel it and if it was normal where it was placed. He said it was a bit high up, either it was implanted there or it moved but it is harmless and as she ages and puts some weight on we won't know it is there. I was able to transfer ownership with a minimal fee for both of my dogs. I feel it is a benefit for all. I read the deleted instructions and felt sick just reading it.

They did not do such a thing~that is just disturbing beyond words. I work in Surgery every day and cannot even imagine how at home removal of a microchip would even be possible. Something the size of a grain of rice implanted into a muscle would be EXCRUCIATINGLY painful to be removed without general surgery! It wouldn't even be acceptable to do under local because of the involvment of muscles. The thought this is even remotely humane is sickening. This has to be a totally made up lie just to get us riled up~it has to be! There must be an audience sitting and reading, giggling over how upset they are making everyone. I REFUSE to believe this person really did this or that they are on YT to do anything except cause upset.

Have been reading more web sites that state that the AKC requires your dog to be microchiped in order to register it. I called AKC at 919-233-9767 and asked three questions: Does AKC require a microchip in order to register a dog? Are breeders required by AKC to microchip any of their dogs, breeders or puppies? Does AKC require a dog to have a microchip in order to be shown? The lady said NO to all three questions.

I bet if you had asked them if they supported dogs being mutilated by do-it-yourself microchip removals the answer would have been a resounding NO, too.

This is the AKC requirements for dog identification. The latest I could find was a 2005 version. The great breeders out there might know of a more recent update.

you are the most screwed up human being i have ever heard of! it makes me sooo angry to know that you live right here in my own state. i hope i never meet you and i better never come across your grooming salon or i will personally file animal abuse against you amoung other things that i would have to say to you.

Thank You very much 816Tuesday, you have helped me out. I would never have thought of someone doing this to their beloved best friend but now I know some wacko's out there might do it. Hopefully my screening process would have weeded you out before you ever got one of my babies but just in case I will be changing my puppy contract and including that any microchips placed must stay in place and if removed will void the contract and allow the puppy to be taken back by me because it would be considered animal abuse. No one is forced to buy a puppy from any breeder, if you don't like the way a breeder takes care of their puppies (i.e. placing microchips) please feel free to go somewhere else.

Honestly, if a breeder cared enough to microchip the dog for you. I'd say that's a plus! I microchipped my babies and haven't had any problems with it. No, I don't feel it...sometimes I even wonder if it's there! I don't know what you're (816 Tuesday) talking about, but my registry allows you to update information. That is SICK that you cut the chip out of your dog ...I can't imagine it being painless... Gosh, I can't believe this!!

i have a freaking headache! i cannot imagine, and don't want to! i'm glad i value my membership on YT as it is encouraging me to be more "lady like" and keep my mouth shut on what i really think!
i'd quote someone but we all know what i'm talking about, as i don't want to even read anything that comes out of their mouth again!! it amazes me at what some people will stoop to, thinking they are going to get a point across or justify their disgusting behavior! i think your baby would be better off getting away from you, seeing that now there would be no way to trace it back to you unless you've pulled some other disgusting stunts. and from a common sense stand point, you're a "groomer" can you tell me you have never cut a dogs nails too short to cause them pain? do you think that's even comparable to what you've done? you disgust me...along with others i'm sure, just as well as your innocent baby.
