| Thank you! I didn't realize the cone had a name O_o Cats get them too, but we always called them cones. Did you know they makes soft floppy cones now? We had one on Suki when we first got her after her spay (her's was blue) and it didn't work so well... I don't recommend them :P I know small breeds have a lot of risk in tracheal collapse. Is the hard "e" collar a problem for that? I know you shouldn't put regular collars on them, so I'm wondering if the cone is okay? My vet did heavily insist on *all* the optional parts, but it seemed like he was almost obligated to tell me they were optional even though he didn't seem too keen on it. I was just wondering if there was some kind of protocol where he has to give me the option to opt out. I will be opting in on absolutely everything. It is not worth risking my furbaby's life for some extra cash in my pocket and I don't think anyone should have the option to do so, but again that is JMO. |

When we first had Suki, we had a different vet. Who was terrible by the way... as we found out later when there were some harder to diagnose health problems going on. I ended up diagnosing her myself via the internet and treating her independently for allergies until we located our new and current vet. Who is very good! The old vet is the one who put the soft e-collar on her after her spay. I had never seen it before and I have never seen one since. Like I said I don't recommend it. I figured the hard e-collar would be okay for the smaller breeds since no one here had warned against it, but it was something I had wondered about so I figured I would ask. Thanks for the reply!

It may have been defective. To be fair, we haven't had one since or known anyone else who used one. It could work fine in other instances, but I personally wouldn't want another one that's all! P.S. If it was a question as to whether or not it was specifically made soft or not (I'm not too sure from the phrasing), it was *supposed* to be that way, but it may have been defective within its own category. ^_^

. The boning seems like it would fix all the issues we had with it. Sounds like Bo is a pretty smart cookie! I'll have to look into hers for the next animal I have spayed.

Also, I'm gonna shoot this question to Mardelin, since I'm sure she knows, when is the best time to do the blood work? 24 hours before surgery, a few days before, or right before? When Uni was sick last, her blood work took about 1/2 a day to get the results in, but I think they put a rush on it. Should i ask for blood work the day before, and if everything's ok, bring her back in for the surgery?

I know not every vet has a complete lab in their own practice, that can make things a little more complicated. For me it is a must to have a vet with complete facilities... but that can be dificult depending on the geographic area i guess. XOXO
