LOL... that is what I have been using lately and cheese. I thought I was the only odd one doing this. Better in the mouth to hold on to if you do not have pockets, I have found out. Hehehe

I use the sweet potatoes too for just at home. It is so good for them.

As was pointed out, it is hard for a non show breeder to buy show stock.

So most, just get the best they can find and start from there to better their own breeding stock

But being a show breeder, in itself, does not automatically make you an ethical breeder. And being a non show breeder does not automatically make you an unethical breeder.

Those of us who don't show have to work harder because we don't have the show title to hide behind.

Many people out there only show to get that title and them showcase their ONE and ONLY show dog on their webgsite, leading people to believe that they have show dogs.

And let's not forget there are more puppy mill puppies sold than show and hobby/byb/non show breeders sell, all put together.

Ethics cannot be taught, you either have them or you don't.

I agree it is difficult for non exhibitors to obtain quality dogs. For more reasons that you know. However, this wasn't a problem until about 10 years ago. Exhibitors that cared about their stock and had spent so much time perfecting their lines, got burnt. This is made them very cautious on who they turn their dogs loose to.

I agree exhibiting does not make you ethical or vise a versa.....You have to be born with that quality.

But, I'm confused what do you mean by have the show title to hide behind?

And yes, there are those that show because they think it's going to promote their puppy sales.

Point taken..there are exceptions to every rule..just a matter of percentages IMO..and one good champion can product excellent puppies for a decade or so.. I would not be ashamed to stand behind one.

Do you find champion-sired puppies sell for more..I do not do that... A pet from a champion is a pet and sells for a pet price, same as a non-champion sired or dam puppy. The most I ever got for a puppy was a very sweet, but plain pet girl..the woman wanted her and offered a blank check.

Says you? I disagree with what you are saying. Your comparisons aren't relevant to this topic.

If it wasn't for YTCA many of these people that have are so deeply in love with little JoJo would not know this pet. It's not a government agency.

So just because one shows their dogs or hires a handler does not mean they are breeding to the standard or producing healthy litters. As much as I hate to state this again "just because a person is a member of the ytca does not make them reputable or mean they are breeding to better the breed".

I'm referring to those who only show so they can call themselves an "exhibitor", because people believe that if they buy from someone who shows they are getting better dogs.

And in most cases they do, but not always. As you said some use it to promote puppy sales. Which is what I was trying to say.

Now I understand and agreed. But, you said that because you don't show you have to work harder. I'm still not understanding that. Because if one is exhibiting and put in years of study, training, traveling and championing their dogs, where is that easier? I think that is the more difficult road to take. And more expensive route.

We have to work harder to produce good dogs, because we cannot buy them.

I can imagine how much work goes into showing, not to mention the time and expense. I go to dog show. I don't talk to the exhibitors because they seem so busy, and I feel intimidated.

Don't ever feel intimidated, they are for the most part very nice. Just don't go up to them prior to the shows, that's when they are busy and oh so nervous. Attempting to get the dog ready for the ring in time. Try putting up a topknot, only to have to take it down 3 times, just because your beloved Fifi isn't cooperating and it's 10 minutes before ring time. I usually tell people that are standing around watching me groom, looking like they want to ask questions, that I'll be happy to answer all their questions and allow them to hold the dog after I get out of the ring.

Do you buy them dried or do you dry them yourself?
