Yes the kindness leads have a broader piece that goes around the neck.. maybe 1/2 inch or so wide.

I use a custom made lead, the neck piece is braided satin, as most of mine hate the wider neck piece. But, kindness leads are easily accessable to buy.

The one's I use are different than the kindness leads; and prices are comperable, unless you start ordering the beaded fancy ones. Black would be best for now, and one is enough for now. If you really begin to enjoy this; I'd invest in a couple more. I find that each dog's preference is different.....If I start counting the leads I have now....I probably could open up my own business.

Great that you want to try and learn. Showing is lots of hard work but fun too if you like competition. Beyond the lead, get some "bait" that is some small pieces of treats, you can buy a bait bag that clips onto your belt or pocket to make it easier to bring out to reward your doggie for good behaviour.
For now just make sure you wear something with a pocket in it to put the treats in.

Then you can watch the class, maybe "stack" Wolfie on your lap, who by the way looks adorable, and give him his treats.

I contacted an ALL BREED club and they had classes...I took a pet Doxie, learned a bit, met a show Doxie breeder and she sold me two champion-sired bitches in 3 months..but decided to concentrate on Yorkies..

You could contact Yorkie breeders and ask about any local handling classes..some vets show and have info.

It is a mistake to ONLY concentrate on Yorkies at a show..the show is all day..go and talk to anyone who will talk..you never know who knows who...I have had Maltese, Pom and Boston etc breeders help me...good luck..

PS..as to UKC show..and International KC...perhaps they are more accepted here in Florida. The alst UKC show I attended in May there was a standard poodle there who was AKC Best in SHow the week before...and there were 3 AKC show breeders entered...

If you have the opportunity to attend 2 shows on the same day,,one being AKC and one being UKC..I would pick AKC...but if there are no AKC, why not go and have fun?
I have meet good dog people in every show I have gone to AKC or not...

LOL but are they wheat free cheerios That's just great cause they travel anywhere, you can get cheerios anywhere too. Have you tried the sweet potatoe dried ? Razz man loves them too, of course he's just a little piggy and will bait for anything.

This lil girl is so food motivated, she'll bait to anything. I use the multi-grain. She tends to dine, so I have to cut the Cheerios in 1/2.

What is it that you think YTCA is supposed to do for unethical breeders?

I hope you joined. The club IS for breeders like you--It puts you in company with caring, responsible breeders and can be the bridge to showing. We encourage our members to show and require they attend two shows per year. We recognize the importance of the showing and want to be there to help ease people into it if they so choose. My early showing experiences struck pure terror into my heart and it took a long time to go back. YTCA is not well represented here, IMO. So many times I longed for a club like this where one could feel respected for advancing in baby steps.
