Prayer Request May be Losing My New Mom I am just heartbroken as I write this...and any advise would be greatly appreciated. On Wed my little female went into labor. She is about 4 3/4 pounds. She did great with the first puppy delivered it without any problems. Then she started pushing for the second little pup and started vomiting. I have heard this can be normal but I had never had this happen with any of my females?...So I was very concerned. Luckily I an only about 3-5 minutes from my Vet and then did see little feet coming.....so while rushing her to the car she started vomiting just uncontrolablely and making a crying sound while doing. I was at the Vet within 3 minutes and they pulled the puppy but were not able to save it. They sent her home and the vomiting should stop and if not to bring her back in....well the vomiting after getting home was not stopping with the crying...so I rushed her back in. She has been there since Wed and when I went for my vist yesterday she looked horrible and lifeless...not even knowing me. So far the xray, sonogram of her unterus shows nothing and they are giving her fluids but her blood sugars are dropping and they cannot get her stable. It does not look good and my heart is simply breaking. I do not know if I can ever have another litter if something happens to her. SO PLEASE PRAYERS FOR HER AND ANY ADVISE ON WHAT ELSE THEY MAY CHECK FOR WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED?

I am so sorry you are going thru this. I have never heard of something like this before. You mentioned her sugars are dropping and she is at the vet? Can they not put something in her iv to raise her sugars and keep her hydrated? I am praying for you and your little one. Sorry I don't really have any advice for you.

She has been on IV Fluids since she went in and just worsening. I know they are Lactated Ringers but I would hope they have some Dextrose with them...I will ask today when the Vet calls me but so holding my breath as did not look good yesterday. My knees were so weak and I could not stop the tears. THe staff was very good...but does not stop the way it feels to be losing a Mom. Another prob is my orig Vet was off Fri, Sat, Sun, and Monday.....so the attending Vet while nice seemed a little scared to do more tests. I noticed a big note on the cage stating my Vets name and to call HER.... So my thinking is I am so close to my Vet the others are a little scared to proceed without her permission. She has even stated to me they need to add a wing to the clinic for my Yorkies as in there it seems weekly with dentals, and mostly healthy dog care. At this point I have not stopped praying so all prayers needed. Thank you so for your support.

My Vet called and the first thing that was said is that he did not have good news......my mind started clouding as I knew in my heart after seeing my precious baby girl yesterday what he was going to say. He told me she had passed away this morning. I think I may be in shock just feel horrible. I do not know if I can continue to breed another litter. Going to have to do some serious soul searching as I look around at all my little precious faces looking up to me to always do right by them and never put them in harms way.....The surviving little puppy is now 4 days old and sat up feeding and could see she is getting stronger a little each day. I will continue to do all I poss can and try to get her over the hump......but way so heartbreaking when looking at her now to know it took a life to give a life. I really do not know what to do from here as this is honestly something I do not know that you ever get over. Thank you for all your prayers and please continue to pray for the baby. We are both going to need the support.

| First of all, I am very sorry for your loss. I am a breeder as well and I don't know what I would do if I ever lost a mom. I think, if I were you, I would want to have a necropsy done on your poor little mom to see if it could give you any clue as to what was happening with her. The only experience I have had with blood sugar and pregnancy was with a girl that we could not stabilize a low blood sugar about 1 week prior to her due date. Her main symptom was vomiting, every 5 minutes or so, she could keep nothing down, not even water. After 24 hours on a dextrose drip and not being able to get her sugars up, we took the pups by c-section at 56 days. Luckily all pups lived but that was not my main concern, it was for the mama. In our case, as soon as the pups were born her blood sugar levels returned to normal immediately after the c-section.

So sorry to hear about your mommy dog. Is this Rainey by chance?? If so, we were praying like mad over on FB for her. What a heartbreaker! I hope the little puppy will be ok. If this isn't Rainey, then there was another mommy yorkie that had the exact same thing happen and she passed this morning. SO SAD!!

I would not breed again until I got a better idea of what happened. Did the vet do a necropsy? How was her physical condition before breeding and leading up to the whelping? Was there an infection, fever..was her stool negative before breeding? I would want a smear taken from other bitches to check for any infections or viruses..herpes etc...just to be safe. I am so sorry for your loss.
