Don't get me wrong, I agree with every word RachelandSadie said. But I can see how her words can come on stronger than others. *Not picking on you Rachel, cause I got nothin but love for ya!*
Like I said to the OP. If she expected everyone on YT to sit around and say "HIP HIP HOORAY! More puppies in the world!" I'm sorry but that is just not going to happen. I love this breed. I will admit that breeding did cross my mind, everyone loves puppies! But, the more I learned about it, it is not something should be taken on so lightheartedly.

RachelandSadie's words may have been a bit stronger, but the words needed to be said. No sugar coating when something as crucial and dangerous as breeding and whelping puppies is in the hands of inexperienced wanna be breeders. I have no problem with someone wanting to breed, but only if it's done correctly. An inexperienced person taking the life of a dog into their hands is just so wrong.

There were several posts made throughout this thread where the concern seemed to be more focused on the price of a procedure rather than if it was actually beneficial to the dog. So it shouldn't come as a shock that it was brought up.

Furthermore, anytime someone is discussing breeding and their knowledge of the overall seems to be lacking, as has been done in this thread, you will generally see people voicing concern if they feel someone is breeding without being adequately prepared. Generally, the well being of the dog comes first, and people's feelings and egos come later.

Also, just to point out, in general, the point of having an x-ray or sonar is not so that you will know in advance how many puppies to expect.

thanks, i'm not trying to bash, i'm being harsh to prove a point. she could seriously loose her dog doing this. is that a risk worth taking to have a puppy from her bitch? what if she looses both of them? i'm not being mean i'm being realistic. i love my dog far too much to put that risk on her life. i know RVT's and DVM's that with all the knowledge that they have still do not breed because it's such a huge, huge responsibility.

thanks,

all that being said...i would really love to sit in on a whelp of a very well researching and amazing breeder just to see them at work and stand back in awe of the experience. no one denies that puppies are amazing and i myself have helped out barn cats in the whelping process as young as 10 years old, but those were strays that happened upon my porch and had kittens, NOT my beautiful yorkshire terrier baby girl and her life at stake, i just wouldn't do that to her, but i'd love it if anyone in the area would offer to let me see what they do, not to learn breeding just to see for amazement. DEB SILLARS WHERE ARE YOU??

..fyi i'm not inexperience...i was just scared hearing the horror stories ppl have gone threw as i said where i bred chloe she didn't do the x-ray or any of that stuff and now she said she wished she did...i researched the x-ray to see what it looked like and i paid and had it done cause my dogs are like my children and do lose them i would be overwelmed with grief..i asked for advice from ppl who have yorkies to meet friends who have yorkies and what i can expect...if you were to talk to my vet who've i had for over 30yrs would tell you my animals r my life..my first yorkie i had to put down she was 11wks.she was born with fluid around the brain i even went to a second vet..i got my money back what i pd for her after a struggled but i lost 500.00 trying to save her and i pd to have her buried at a pet cememety we have here..the most experience person can have trouble and my vet is on speed dial if there was a problem...

...i understand about the x-ray i researched it on the computer what to expect like i said just cause i asked questions doesn't mean i'm inexperience cause someone with experience can go threw something they never expected..sry i asked questions alot but that how i learn from the vet, books, computer and other yorkie owners and like i have said my animals come before i do i treat them like i do my kids...sry if i'm a little scared but like i said in another quote the lady i used for stud lost her female in feb.cause she didn't pay the money for the x-ray etc..and a pup was stuck inside her so after hearing that i got scared that's why i joined this group to help me destress and meet NICE ppl not to get bashed..i wanted to be a vet which didn't happen but that didn't stop my love of researching animals..

YOU have be given EXCELLENT advice from each and EVERY breeder who contributed to this forum. I hope you don't think that breeding your "baby" is not a good way to research. I love my girls too, that is why I choose to enjoy them as family members instead of jumping into breeding and learn as I go. Getting one of their pups is just not worth the risk to me. JMO

....i didn't do it for the research what i said is i research all my life on animals and before and during her pregnancy i did research and of course i wouldn't risk her life i wouldn't breed her if she was under 5lbs and she is over 5lbs and the vet said everything was fine..so i talked to my vet before during and will be after..i wanted another yorkie so i decided to get 1 off of her there is no harm in that..

Hey Sasha good luck with the next week and enjoy the quietness for now...LOL...Diamond is going back to the vet next week for a x-ray to do measurments to ensure that she can birth the pups and that evrything is ok and then we will also get a accurate count! She is currently 8.6 lbs and yeah she only weighed 6 lbs starting off. We are on day 47 right now and I did post a new belly pic today! Keep in touch and good luck my friend!

One time a new breeder asked me to help her whelp a litter. All went well until the bitch delivered an extremely tiny puppy..cord and afterbirth all shot out at the same time..the bitch reached down so fast and grabbed the pup in her mouth..and swallowed it...luckily the afterbirth was hanging out and I quicky pulled it back out in one piece. LOL The breeder had stepped out of the room for only a second to get some paper towels...she walked in just as I pulled the puppy out of her mouth...she said.."I thought they came out the other end!!!"...LOL We had a good laugh..

Then there was the time I went to Baltimore to help Johnny Bradley with a litter...she actually had two due about 3 days a part..we were up all night, needed the vet and had to go out in an ice storm..came home with 3 nice pups and a sectioned mom..both of us were dead on our feet...and the other bitch got in her box and started pushing as we went in the bedroom.....we were up the rest of the day...all went well... I could sure write a book about crazy whelpings...

Now that's the craziest breeder story yet! Glad everything turned out well. But that made my jaw drop!
