| Schedulle C-section, Question for the breeders that had experience with this: My female was bred on June 16th , then every other day until june 21st. Took her to have Xrays On August 4th, Supposely 50 days into pregnancy if she had ovulated on June 16th... Vet could barely see one puppy and suggested we do another Rx this friday August 14th. We have scheduled a C-section for the 20th of August by his recommendation. Based on her Xrays he thinks she must have ovulated around the 20Th... We usually spay in the first c-section if it happens. She had a c-section on her first litter due to a HUGE singleton and because we know her lines well and the way the mating happened the first time the vet recommended not spaying her, but i do not want to risk having her go into labor and having huge complications. Therefore the scheduled c-section.We Plan to keep one of her daughters and spay her now. She had a boy first litter and that is why i did not keep. Any inputs or words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

| I have no experience with singleton litters or c-sections. If she has had two singleton litters I would assume she would continue to do that, and I would think about spaying as well. I hope the vet can find another pup on Friday!

| I have only had one c-section during my 12+ years of raising yorkies and that was a 5 lb female that had a large singleton pup. Her next litter she had two pup which she delivered naturally. Personally, I would never schedule a c-section. I know someone that did that and on two different occasions they lost the litters because the pups were premature. I know it is a tough decision. I hope it all turns out okay. |

| Yes, it is the hardest decision ever. i also had a female that had a c-section and on her second litter she delivered 3 natural babies. Specially harder because as much as we try to "pin point" the date we only have the first "tie" date, not the actual ovulation... That is the reason i placed the thread, to see what other's experiences are. The other female ended up being spayed before she had another litter, 2 was good enough.. i do not over breed anyways. 2 or 3 litters and retirement... She is 5 pounds, now she is over 6.0 and have a huge belly so both me and the vet are thinking that she does have more puppies, we just could not see it. I usually do Xrays 2 times anyways just to be sure, an earlier one around 50 to 52 days and another at day 60 or so... to see the positioning ! Well thanks for sharing. We will see what other experiences will be posted. I will keep updates too. Thanks a Bunch.

| I have no advice, as this is my first litter (and a singleton litter at that) and I am also thinking about a c-section! I do hope someone can help you out though, good luck! It sounds like she is carrying more than one puppy though, because she is due the same time Roxie is and Rox's belly is still really small. bjh, how many singleton litters have you had? And you've only had one c-sec? That makes me feel slightly better about Roxie's singleton. I'm so worried that the pup is going to get stuck. (If it does get stuck is there anything I can do to help it get out??)

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | My last girl had a singleton and a csection. It was the hardest thing to decide but I didn't want to lose my girl. I trusted my vet and luckly it turned out alright.

| I had 2 singletons litters, both c-sections. One we unfortunately lost the puppy as it was really HUGE and she got spayed right there. She was fine and i considered a great experience since she did great ... The other one is this momma, she had her huge baby as a c-section and she did well and so did the baby who turned out a little bigger than the mom. Over a year ago... her other puppy is probably one year and seven months old... something like that. Her belly is big, really big compared to the other singletons we had. That leads me to believe it is more than one puppy and makes me fear that if they are taken out too young they may not make it! That is what it is killing me... We had other c-sections, all successful... everyone made it ... one repeated breeding like this one , but that was years ago and neither me or my vet remembers well what we had decided that time. All i remember was the litter had 6 puppies (the first was 5) and we got mom spayed and all was wonderful ! But there was no concern about the "age" of the puppies that i remember and this time that is what makes me wonder.

| I was hoping for more answers ... She keeps getting bigger and bigger, her belly is considerably larger today which makes me lean towards the idea that she has more puppies in there. but the thought of a c-section earlier than it should be is killing me... What if the puppies do not make it? i will never forgive my self........

| The only thing I can think of is for you to take her temperature a few times a day and when you notice that it has dropped, schedule the c-section, because she would be about to go into labor anyway. So chances are, it would not be too early for the pup(pies.) But wait until the x-ray to decide. Who knows, you might have multiple pups in there and a c-sec won't even be necessary. The vet can also measure the skulls and see if he thinks they'll pass through alright. Goodluck!!

| How about have a "tenative" C-Section scheduled as close to her due date as possible? This way you know they won't be too early. It is possible she may deliver natural. I agree with waiting until the xray to see but just because there is more than one doesn't mean she won't have to have C-section. I just went through an unplanned C-section and delivered two pups. |

On the first post i did the dates did you see? We think the 20 th may be close enough, but someone here confirmed my fear, that she met or knew someone who did a c-section scheduled and lost the litter... i am biting my nails trying to decide. i will post the results of the next Xrays . I thought of the temperature too but if it falls on sunday ... my vet is closed and i had the "bad" experience with the emergency .... when we lost the puppy. And it is true , she may have more than one and still need a C-section. i remember once i spoke to a breeder and she mentioned to me that she scheduled c-sections often, she bred old English bulldogs and yorkies... I do not remember who she was or have the contact otherwise i would call for an opinion on how she would handle something like this. Are your 2 puppies and mom doing ok? I hope so. Thanks so much i really appreciate the opinions. XOXO

| I only ever had one scheduled c section and always regreted it. It all depends how accessibly your vet is to you. It's a personal decision really. When I had mine the mom wouldn't bond with the pup and even tried to kill it. I ended up hand raising it but that doesn't happen often |

| One of my females has a schedule c-section before, it's because the X'ray shows the puppies are growning too big, and the mom is not able to deliver them. So my vet decide to do a schedule c-section. We wait until the water break, and run to my vet's place to do the c-section, so this way, we are sure the puppy is not taking out earlier than they should. But we have a problem after the puppies are born... The mommy does not have milk to nurse them. So for the first three days, I have to beg my other female who currently nursing her 4wks old babies to help me nurse these new born babies. I don't know if it would happen to all the females, but I just feel like a female will take more time to produce milk if the puppy is born from a c-section. (at least for my case^^) |

I never had milk problems or the mom not recognizing the puppies, the C-sections we had all went well, except the one we lost the puppy and that was not in my regular vet, but in the emergency... it seems whoever is there comes and i am just thankful the mom did fine and we got her spayed . My only fear of waiting until the water breaks is to have to run to the emergency vet again.... Do you remember how many days after the first tie? I mean your c-section was performed? Her next appointment is tomorrow @3:00... so i will post if we have any news, but she is HUGE already ... it does not look like a singleton at all... we will know for sure tomorrow. Again, I really appreciate all the answers, i really do ... XOXO
