| Tammy, does the momma dog like to play with the pups at all? It would be nice if you could do a setup like I have where the pups are confined to an x-pen but there is a board across one end so the momma can go in and out. I know my mommas would be so upset if they could not get to their pups, even at 6 weeks old and older. Hopefully she will want to play with them more after they get past the nursing stage. |

I think/hope maybe she will enjoy them more when they don't need her, and she doesn't have to lay there nursing them. I havfe seen pics of those pens, and they look great. She can actually go in and out of this one if she wanted to. She never goes in unless we put her in; then she jumps out as soon as she can. I don't know if age has anything to do with it, but she prefers to be with me, and will follow me everywhere, and couldn't care less about the kids.

| I think she will start playing with them a bit more when they get a little older. That is what I have observed with my females. How well are the pups eating now? Hopefully they are starting to eat a little more food. |

I think and hope so too. They are showing a bit more interest in it. We introduced it to them on our fingers, and they developed interest that way. Tonight the girl went up to the bowl and licked some herself. Hopefully, they will eat more on their own soon. They are both gaining daily, so I'm not so worried anymore. Tomorrow they will be 5 weeks and today they weighed: boy 1 lb. 15.5 oz - almost 2 lbs!!!!!!!!!!! girl 1 lb. 14.4 oz They're not even on the puppy growth chart! LOL

| Hy Tammys, I am just curious about what happened between you and "dad's" family at this point. I just read the whole thread and i am wondering about one thing: if they do not have their male fixed and you mentioned they have "limited" control on their dogs... Well, my question is: if they get to keep one of the puppies (specially concerned about the female) there is a great possibility another mismating will happen right? Even if she goes and buys another female, this is still a strong possibility... My prayers go to you in this delicate situation. You must be stepping on "raw eggs" ... It may all be resolved already but i was just wondering how you dealt with it! keep us informed if you can.

The last time we spoke was last Sunday, b/c they were on their way out of town. As my dh said, they have had lots of time to discuss it during their trip, so hopefully, it won't be an issue. I keep thinking that the husband doesn't know how much money they are going to owe me, and when he finds out, the story might change. You're right; another unplanned pregnancy is a definite possibility if they get another girl, b/c she told me she might want to put her boy up for stud. I am a nervous wreck thinking about this. They get back in town on Sunday, and I don't know what's going to happen. I keep wondering if there's any way they could just 'take' a puppy. I mean, can we say no, and that's that, or can they fight that? I just keep going back in my mind to 13 days ago when she said she didn't want to hurt my feelings by not taking the boy. Then her dh changes his mind. Like I said, I would bet anything that it's related to the money. If he doesn't know how much they still owe me, he would never entertain the thought of getting a girl elsewhere, and getting one of ours for what he thinks is a cheap amount would work for him, even if it's not the girl his wife wants. We'll see. I will definitely keep everyone posted.

| You certainly are on a tight spot... who wants to argue with a good neighbor? Nobody needs that... As far as their right to "pick a puppy".... it is not that you and them planned this to happen and had an agreement before hand that things would be done this way or that way... actually i think what they should owe you is an apology for letting their dog into your property and causing this "accident". But life is not that simple... and it seems that somewhere along the whole thing you two had an agreement ... Imagine if they were to get your girl puppy??? another accidental breeding between father and daughter would be certain.... the outcome may not be as pleasant as the plan... Then if they get the boy, less worry on that area, but still, ... what other type of accidents they are looking for? And if she eventually gets another female somewhere else.. yes... she will be having litters... Again... i recognize your tight spot... and i am sure you will have to make some hard decisions. I can not speak for others, but you will have my support whatever you decide.. Life is not easy and never uncomplicated ! Again, blessings !

| I understand that you need to maintain good chemistry with your neighbours, but if they do get your puppy, you will constantly worry about him and this might drive you to say something that might upset the balance anyway. You definitely have a leg to stand on in this case. Their dog was on your property and as a result, your female was bred. Personally, I don't think they should be rewarded for this situation. Instead, they should be punished in some way. It is pure negligence! Because this was an accident that you didn't want to happen, you don't owe them anything, really. They owe you for the expenses, but if they don't pay that, they have no right to a puppy. I agree that you should make all your expenses known to them and I also agree that you should have a contract drawn up. You can simply give them the boy on limited registration or demand neutering before they get the papers. You don't want to offend them and that is fine, but you have a right to protect your puppies. You should enforce this right. Good luck. We are thinking of you in this difficult situation.

| I think it's done, but I feel TERRIBLE! I am so in love with both these babies, that I feel even worse, b/c I know I WANT to keep both of them. Of course, the safety aspect is what first even sparked the thought of keeping them both, and that's what I need to keep in mind. These babies will NEVER be dropped, or tossed, put up on a truck roof, or roam around the neighborhood. I know I could have never crossed the line of telling her what bothered me, b/c a few weeks ago I asked her what they were planning on doing to keep the new puppy from getting loose like the other dogs, and she looked insulted. Not that she's not hurt now, but at least I haven't insulted her. She says she is not angry, just sad. So, I feel absolutely horrible that I have hurt my friend, b/c in her mind, I decided to keep the baby, b/c we have fallen in love with him, and that makes me look so selfish. Thank you all for your support; I absolutely know I am doing what is best for the puppies; it's just doesn't feel like I have done what is best for my friend, but the babies have to be my priority. | It is never easy to go against your friends, so congratulations for standing up for the rights of the puppies. I hope your friend gets over it soon.
