I also use another vet who I'm educating on yorkies from what I've learned from my other vet and my breeder/mentor. Believe it or not some breeders know more than vets LOL...I have been known to diagnose my own dogs because I know them so well but of course they are taken to the vet first before I do anything but 80% of the time I'm right. Of course I'd never give anyone medical advice because I'm not a vet but vets do learn from experinced breeders.
I made my mistakes along the way and when I try and give advice it's because I made the mistake first and learned from it. And it's when it's not what they want to hear my head gets bitten off and when you get bitten one too many times you learn to not put your hand in the mouth that bites.
So when I can answer a question it's because I've btdt and learned from it. I see on here many times if it's not what they want to hear they get of the defensive so I just remove my hand so it won't get bitten any longer

I'm just glad I have two vets that has an open mind and listens to the breeders. I believe vets have to be open as well to what an experienced breeder has to say. I will take my business elsewhere in a heartbeat if my vet isn't open to what I have to say and will listen. I do believe vets do not know it all they have to learn too but again I do call the vet first before seeking a forums help But of course that's just me

Joey's vet said that how he learns most of his breed specific knowledge from the better breeders. While his specialty is smaller breed dogs, vets have to learn about dogs, cats, and many other species, so knowing the special intricacies of a particular breed is probably learned from the people who specialize in that breed.

Personally, I am glad we had this little discussion because it gives us all something to think about. I can definitely see and understand other's point of view. Breeding and raising a yorkie puppy can get very complicated at times but is also very rewarding when done properly.

I have also learned alot from my daughter who is a Genetics Major and looks up alot for me. My Vet thou always ask me to bring his thoughts and diagnosis to the forum. He is curious what every says and does want to learn...He also calls his A&M professors...Lissette

What I said exactly was: "I think the ultimate disloyalty to the breed is to see something that is harmful to the breed, and say nothing."

I'm really confused as to your reply and what it had to do w/ what I said...maybe I'm having a lapse in brain tissue.

I thought your point was saying that you think "the ultimate disloyalty to the breed is to see something that is harmful to the breed, and say nothing." To me the ultimate disloyalty to the breed is to answer those breeding questions in a completely nonjudgmental way, to just answer the question and be "helpful." It's seems like that's what is what is expected, or things turn into a big fight.

And then sometimes you realize that people ARE paying attention when you answer questions and truly do appreciate it. Even if it's just one person. I just found an old thread that I'd forgotten all about.

Then yes, I think you misunderstood me. In multiple places I've said I don't think we should just ignore anyone. I also said we should educate and help, in one way or another. We should be "helpful" no matter if that help is a specific question OR to educate when we see something harmful.

People judge all the time, that's inevitable. I do think it's possible to educate without being disrespectful.

I'm not saying that naive posters DON'T get defensive - I've seen the "you're being rude" plenty of times - when someone is actually being educational, direct, informative, and factual. But, just because threads go badly - it's not enough of a reason to give up on educating, in my opinion. [Not that "you" are giving up...that was just a general statement]

wow. personally, i don't like it when people breed dogs when they dont have any experience and probably should not be breeding dogs. i generally just feel really bad for their dogs.

but i always try to help if i can, just because i know that i would be helping the dog if i tried to offer help. i might be angry with the person for breeding thier dogs when they should not be, but still, i feel that the dog needs someone who knows better to help them. and the only way to do that is by communicating with their owners.

my belief is "why should the dog suffer because their owner did something wrong?"

gosh, i even help people who do not like me! i just figure, people need help, why do they have to like me to get help from me? why should that matter? maybe they are right! maybe i am not that likable. who the heck knows!

who cares if you think someone is an idiot? (i am not calling anyone an idiot! i just mean in general) you are helping their dog, not them. ok fine, maybe by helping their dogs, you 'accidentally' helped them, but still, its worth it for the dogs.

i love dogs! i don't love back yard breeders as much as i love dogs, but still, they will always exist no matter what, and they doggies depend on us to help them.

there are many bad things that will always exist/happen. you can't turn your head away from it. they won't just disappear, but if you are up for making this world a better place, one little step at a time, it's possible.

sorry, people are probably thinking "what is this crazy girl talking about!? world peace?" i don't know, i am just rambling, this was a long thread to read and i read all the posts, and this was just a summary of how i felt after reading all the posts.

feel free to attack or ignore me. it's great for people to have an opinion. so long as they can back it up.

i know that i would be mad too if i offered to help and someone criticized me, but you know what, you can always tell them to shove it! as long as you did it properly, it is allowed on yt. (if you need advice on how to do that, pm me! JUST KIDDING! dont pm me, practice makes perfect! )
