does ever breeder know for sure that none of their puppies are ever going to have problems as they get older.

what about people, do they choose not have children because there is a chance that a child could become diabetic as it gets older?

There is a whole list of "What ifs" every morning when you choose to get out of bed. do you lie in bed because if you get up and go to work you might get into an accident and kill someones child.

Does anyone realize that a simple receptor from a gene being accepted can mess with the perfect STANDARD of the Yorkie? To wash ones hands that since they are not breeding they have no responsiblity, I disagree. People purchase them, just as people purchase dogs from pet shops. Both need breeders. Now, I'm not saying each breeder is the same but we have to step back and take check of what we are doing here and our responsibilities. The fact is, we are all here and we have something in common - we have a dog (98% of us).

Can't speak for anyone else, but its not my ego. I am just darn tired of the parti bashing on yorkietalk.

and how does any of that translate into a parti colored yorkie becoming deaf, when some breeders are now into the 5th generation and have had partis die of old age and have not had any deafness.

Yes Facts like there has been no indication that this is a problem with yorkies.

We aren't going to stop breeding them as long as there is no indication of it happening, and even then we will most likely only stop breeding those lines.

That was my point JeanieK...if we spay/neuter every dog from every breed that has even the slightest chance of having a health issue or that has had a health issue...what do we have left? Not too many dogs...

So, what do we do from there?

Breed within a responsible program and spay/neuter when it's neccessary...stop a line if we have to...then the chances are a lot less down the line. Right?

This discussion started because the YTCA website states that there could be health issues like deafness linked to breedign the parti colored dogs.

According to the YTCA our partis are some sort of mutant anomaly that looks like this.

Well, I have Biewers but we've all been tossed into the same pile.

When I was younger we had Collies and German Shepherds...my sisters have had Goldens, Labs and Boxers...none of them have had health issues. I, on the other hand, have had Yorkies all of my adult life and we have spent a fortune in vet bills for life threatening health issues. Oh...and...my Yorkies were all of standard size and color. So, it's not just the partis and Biewers.

There were too many posts for me to quote and reply so I'll just say this with apologies in advance to those that have posted civilly. What has been posted here about the piebald (parti) risks is factual. What has been posted to counter those facts are observations with no facts. If you had any facts, I think we would have seen them by now. While your observations may be true, so would mine be if I said that I've never seen any liver shunt or luxating patella in my dogs so it must not be a risk. Kinda ridiculous, huh? And no, I've not written a book but that's the real kicker. I claim no expertise on the subject but was easily able to find tons of good, researched info that was apparently news to some of you that are actually breeding parti Yorkies. From what I've read, many of those breeding partis with other breeds are at least aware of the added risk and aren't in denial. This whole discussion could have ended if you had said something like, "Yes, we're aware of blah, blah, blah and are doing such and such to guard against it". Instead, what I see are flippant remarks and sarcasm. This never was about 'parti bashing'. I really don't have anything against partis and think they can probably be safely bred but not by those that won't even acknowledge the added risks associated with breeding them.
